When i broke my upper control arm on the front i lost the dogbone... will it hurt anything to take out the dogbone on the other side and run it in 2wd until i get a new one?
 
about the only thing that will happen is it will turn into a wheelie monster lol
 
if its still got the dogbone going tot he front diff, youll just have a 3wd and itll pull ot the side with tht remaining dogbone. id suggest taking the one from the tranny to the diff out, just to be careful.

You wont have 3 wheel drive ... My experence from running 2wd is

Hard to control .. also I think its hard on the diff

Jester is correct here. You will not have 3 wd becaue the power will go the the side with less resistance which is the side with no dog bone. Just like on your 1:1 car they call it a one wheel wonder because the power goes to the less resistance. On newer higher end cars this isnt the necessarly the case because there are things like traction control and so on. Like my Audi it uses the ABS to direct the power to the tire that has traction.

Also, 2wd is usually hard to control but if you just drive it easily you will be fine atleast you will beable to drive it.

Don't run it long with just one dog in one side and none in the other because it is hard on the diff because the inside spider gears will turn much more than normal and it is a bit harder on the rear diff because it has to take the full load because the front would be doing nothing with out any dogs out to the wheels.
 
well to correct you its called limited slip. and to get around this is to install a differential locker which have been around i believe since the 60's. its not just the new vehicles that have these capabilities. my stock 89 jeep wagoneer has a locking front dif. and traction control only controls the throttle when u start to spin. but as for the dogbone on my truck ill go ahead and give her a run this weekend. just wanted to make sure from the r/c guys lol since I'm fairly new to the hobby
 
Off topic:
Have you ever driven an 05 or newer Audi. They have a traction control calles ASC or whatever the acranims are. Basicly, if its slips more than like .005 of a second or something it uses the brakes system to to grab the disc of the tire slipping this way the tire that has the most traction gets the power. Its kind of neat because with my quattro in the snow and trying to do donuts or fish tail with the traction crontrol system on it is almost imposable to do so. It does limmet the RPM some but you can just push the pedle down further and give her more. Try it sometime in these cars you will be amased and yes this is a traction control system!

A differential locker simpaly removes the spider gears or in the 60 welded them. This eliminates the difference in tires. No matter what they will spin the same rate used mainly for drag racing, pulling & climbing/crawling applications to maximize traction.
 
I ran about 1/4 gallon with only 2WD, no dog bones going to the wheels in the front, the reason I removed them is because the front diff was toast anyways and decided to just take it out.
 
My buddy loched his front diffoutputs with a piece of wire wrapped around the housing so the front couldnt unload. It seemed to work for him. He didnt break anything in the week it was like that till he got his new dogbones.
 
2WD get ready for alot of spin outs hehe. Its actually rather fun.

As for putting more on the rear end, I don't really see how. Its just an opinion considering on most savages, the front end is either all the way up, or slightly off the ground around 85% + the time anyway.

And its almost the same basics as a 1:1 4WD when you do not have the front end locked in. :dunno:

Like mentioned before just an opinion.
