2 speed tranny question

According to the manual, stock shift setting is 1.5 turns in. Is it abnormal that I had to turn the screw 3.5 turns in to have it shift within 15feet. Is there a possibility that I may have to replace the spring in the transmission assembly?

no need to replace any thing ... each ones different just like the engines adjustments ... as long as you get it to shift when you like your good....

a three speed gets set at 3.5 turns in and 3.25 turns for the inside clutch depending on your spur gear set up....then adjust from there...as long as everything is shifting smooth it's working....play with the adjustment till your happy with your shift pattern...happy bashing!!

I have a new XL and it didn't shift right so I took it apart and set everything according to the manual only to find out those settings didn't work either so I took it apart again and manually extended the little clutch shoe and realized that the spring in 2nd was way tighter than the spring in 3rd with the "factory" settings. So I took an educated guess by how the spring tension felt in each gear and I was able to get it working properly that way. Add a couple more times to fine tune in it and I was into the tranny 4 times to get it right within the first week LOL. On the plus side I new exactly how it all worked by the time I was done and when I started it was all new for me. Now it's no longer intimidating or confusing when I have problems cause I no whats going on inside that box LOL.
