17/49 - can you have this on a Savage X?

Gents,

Maybe I missed something but I didn’t find a thread on the matter. Will a 17/49 gearing fit to Savage X without any modifications? I mean, there’s not much room to adjust the mesh correctly with large spur gears as the engine sits next to the chassis rail

Could someone kindly shed light on the matter?

17/49 should be fine. Been a while, but fairly certain you could go bigger. I found the 16/48 to be best for my savage x ss.

I have an 18/49 combo in a Savage X and run 16/48, 17/47, and 17/48 in others...
The 18/49 is tight and the engine is right up against the chassis plate - so I'm not sure if a 19/49 could fit (even though the gear chart says otherwise).
I had to ground down some fins on the engine just to make the 18/49 fit.
