Just got a new engine for my savage x 4.1
I couldnt afford a hpi unit, so I bought an STS d30. Its very very fast. I need to set it up correctly as it wont tick over properly, but I haven't really had much chance of messing about yet.

Ive had about 20 tanks of fuel through the engine.
I have been looking on ebay and can get a brushless motor and esc for about £80 plus batteries and charger. cable ties will hold the batteries onto the sides of the chassis.
Like I say, its gotta be cheap. I have too many kids to justify...
It was my birthday yesterday, so my wife suggested that I should take out my savage (and my kids) to the park.
The truck was running very well for about 10 minutes, then the engine just stopped instantly! its not seized but it appears the conrod bearing has worn very badly. Is this worth...
The previous owner was a mechanical engineer, I have known him for years. Its always possible he was lying but I have no real reason to doubt him. I know what you are saying though. I might send HPI some thread lock for christmas lol
Has anyone else found their savage to be VERY poorly put together?
I am assured by the previous owner that the engine has never been out before I got it and neither has any of the drive train.
When I had to remove the engine to repair the starter mechanism, there are bolt holes missing and...
I have sorted the problem...... The carb was set so it could only acheive 1/4 throttle!! don't know why I didnt notice! maybe I need to get my eyes checked!!
Anyways.... its very fast now and with a bit more tuning the front wheels are getting off the ground.
My savage, like most has an electric starter. But the "oneway" bearing to the crankshaft seems to be faulty, is there a way of making it work or will I have to get a new one?
It was working fine but after I went through some water and mud it nolonger wants to work. :thinking:
my 4.1 was running incredibly hot, and I couldnt get it to run cooler, so my mate (he has a thunder tiger mta4) suggested trying the settings on his carb, 2.25 turns out on the main jet, this has transformed my truck performance and its now running MUCH cooler. Still wont get those front wheels...
Just tried those settings. It ran like a bag of spanners, so tweeked it a little and it runs a bit better.
Blue smoke at full throttle and some blue smoke at set off.
Still wont pull a wheelie tho!
Am I right to assume that it should wheelie? or would I need a bigger engine?
Does anyone know the factory settings for my 4.1 big bore savage?
I have just been given a hpi savage 4.1, and it runs a bit slow, it cant wheelie, and its very hot, can anyone suggest a simple solution to my problems?
I am new to nitro so please make it simple.
