Savage SS with RB modded STS D30M

The truck is really fun to drive. I am going to try moving up to a 16T CB to try and get a little less wheelies out of the corners at the local track. The track has fairly short straights and I really never top the Savage out with the 15T it is just a pain to have to feather the throttle coming...

Savage SS with RB modded STS D30M

Took some vids of the Savage to show you guys how well the HPI carb works on the STS D30M. I had to break the vids up into 100MB parts to upload them to Youtube. The Savage is an SS 4.6 with HE driveline, 3 speed, X diffhousings running a 15T CB/47T spur and some other small mods. The tune on...

    Need some feed back!

You can pick up the Permatex Ultra Copper at all most any auto parts store, I have been told that Threebond 1211 silicone is the best sealant to use for nitro engines because it won't be disolved by the nitro. No one in my area sells the Threebond 1211 so I used the Permatex Ultra Copper without...

    Need some feed back!

Tek, I used the carb off of the HPI K4.6HO whick is the same 9mm carb Axial uses on their mills. The carb on the STS's only real issue is bad o-rings. My STS's carb just wouldn't hold a tune even after new o-rings were installed so I switched to the HPI 9mm carb. The mods done by RB are...

    Dirt Bonz Tires

I really like the HPI Aggressors on my Savage. They have great traction on both pavement an dirt. The side wall has good stiffness so the cornering with these tires is very good.

I have 100 DS .32 UBS nitro's for sale, $400.00 each, GET THEM WHILE THEY LAST. They might look like HPI's K4.1 BUT trust me they are high power engines! Wait, I think I've been :40: Seriously though, HP ratings are to make the customer feel good about dropping $500.00 on his rare...

    Need some feed back!

HP ratings on nitro mills are just for bragging and increasing sales, remember that companies only need to include 33% trueth in their ads. SO, an ad for the DS .32 UBS nitro engine: manufacturer; Defiantspaz Inc. displacement; .32 CI max RPM; 100,000 RPM HP rating; 100HP Carb size...

    Need some feed back!

Horse power ratings on nitro engines is just a guess, the HPI K4.6 probably doesn't make 2.9 HP, so don't worry about HP ratings. The STS is the fastest sub $140.00 egine you can buy. The weight of your Savage is your biggest enemy. The STS will have no trouble pulling your truck down the...

Mega, which STS pipe are you talking about? The 0403 for the .21 or the 0702 for the .28/.30? I am using the 0702 STS pipe with my RB D30M and it seems to work very well, nice broad powerband. I have tried the HPI polished and an SH golden lion pipe and neither were as good as the STS, for me...

    Need some feed back!

The STS D30M is a rocket plain and simple. BUT it does have it's draw backs. First the carb o-rings suck, then don't seal very well and allow the needles to move around making tuning very frustrating. Second the needles themselves have a very course thread so a very small turn will result in a...

    sts 30 temp ????

Try running 30% nitro/ 11% oil fuel with the STS. Also try a hot plug, McCoy MC-59. The combo of higher nitro and hotter plug may help the STS run better when you richen it up to cool down the temps.

    sts 30 temp ????

If you only have 10 tanks through the D30M you shouldn't be tuning for power yet. The new STS Version 2 D30M has a very tight pinchand rushing the break in will lead to a toasted engine. Did you do any type of static, the RC is not moving, break in? Examples are a heat cycle or idle break in...

    whats the difference

No problem Doob, I was just clearing up some of the info that I should have went into more detail the first time around. Everyone is different, for Rick his break in plan may produce perfectly good running race mills in a quicker amount of time. Most Pro racers replace atleast the internals...

    whats the difference

The main point that Rick was trying to fix in his break in plan is that most people don't know how to "blip" the throtle after the initial heat cycles. As described above, blipping does not mean flooring the trigger and letting off. For Rick to state that idleing the mill for a couple of...

    Sts D30m

Well I am not so lucky, I preffer 30% fuels. 30% seems to be more forgiving during breakin tuning than the lower %'s are. If I could get Odonnell or Byron's I would run either of them. I personally run Trinity monster power race blend and love it. I have been told by many people, professional...

    Sts D30m

Yes I did. I also used 30% nitro because you can run a richer better lubricating fuel setting and still get the engine to idle.

    whats the difference

The term "blipping" is what causes the biggest confusion. What is a blip? How do you go about producing a "blip"? Think of the term "blipping" as "pulling the throttle 1/4 of full". The issue is that most people get confused during this stage of the heat cycle break in and consult the "when...

I am running the HPI aluminium clutch shoes with the gold springs, here comes the HEAT. I have a modded STS D30M and Rick recomended the McCoy MC-59 glow plug.
