I check mine after every run or minimum after the day is over.
Simply spin the wheels and drive train. look and feel for things that arent smooth. Always pay special attention to the clutch bell bearings. They will be the first to go and need to be changed often.

Power and torque have a lot to do with the transmission gearing, pinion and spur gear.
My Ford F150 has a 6 cylinder in it but is the fastest oem truck in off the line and offers more torque then any other.
Its all about the gearing.
As far as price. If you can afford it, just look and drool. :)

Yes its the Extra is all done and I have flown it several times.
Its a good little flyer but its real pitch sensitive and itsnt that fun as compared to others that I have.
Its just a bit to small for me.

I'm fairly new to flying and am having a blast at the field and also building.
Started out with a Super cub then went to a T-28, then got a Fun Cub.
From there I started to build my own. Built a smaller Alien Extra, and am now working on a 72 inch Alien Fun Master.
