Okay so yesterday i tested the new Badlands tires on my XL, and they have excellent grip i am very impressed with them...

So what i have noticed since installing these tires is i have fried a slipper pad to nothing, and now today the clutch bell lost all its teeth, no damage to the spur...i was flying good one second then had nothing the next, and upon inspection i saw all the teeth on the CB were non existent...

Now my theroy is that since installing the smaller tire i lost some of my top speed in the process, so now the motor is straining harder to get up to speed faster, b/c now i noticed how much longer it takes to hit 3rd, where as with the terapins i had a lot of wheel slip with those pillows and it allowed the trans to shift faster b/c the wheels were slipping on the terrain, not with the badlands, these things bite!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Maybe i had to slipper too tight, or the mesh of the spur and bell were off, i did notice a slight wobble to the spur as i turned it by hand, but nothing to drastic, so in two days with these new tires, i burned up a slipper pad, and ate a clutch bell...Is it the tires?????? Should i run a different Spur and Bell Combo??? I know from regular vehicles that changing tire sizes will change gear ratios, I'm just trying to figure it out on a scale level...

I would assume that changing to a different spur and clutch bell combo with the smaller diameter tire would make a huge different in the performance of my vehicle...Whos got some tips for me here b/c I'm lost, and need to buy parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually going to smaller tires should get you up to speed faster with less stress on your driveline but you lose some top speed.

If you want your top speed back you need to go up on the CB or down on the spur.

thanks for the input fellas...i think I'm just gonna stick with the stock setup, its pretty good as is, I'm not to worried about the top speed, she still moves well, I'm more worried about burning up these parts...i hope i don't have some sort of driveline issue, and thats why I'm chewing up clutch bells, and slipper pads...after i replace the bell, whats a good way to ensure proper gear mesh??? i did take the top of the trans off to replace the slipper pad, but the mesh seemed ok when i reinstalled the top of the trans...is there any way the mesh could get thrown off from this??? i mean it went back in the same way it came out and the mesh seemed ok...i guess the true test would be when i replace the CB and see what happens...I'm just thinking these new meats are providing so much grip, its tearing up driveline parts...and i guess loosening the slipper some couldnt hurt either right???

Beast, your most definately getting more grip, but your clutchbell was either a bad mesh or mis-alignment. check your motor plate for cracks or bends.

good idea to check your mesh & motor mount screws after or before every bash. mount screws are a big stress point & get a lot of vibration from the mill.

idk if you did it already, but if not, set your mesh & put washers & loctite on your mill screws so you can really crank them down.

i never chewed up a plastic spur gear, but did wipe out a slipper pad when my slipper nut worked its way loose, but now i crank it down tight & just make sure not to land under power or brake.

i agree 100% with this!! you do loose over all speed but way better take off..

thanks man, I'm gonna do that tonight, I'm gonna go get a replacement CB and while i have the motor out I'm gonna check the alignments and surrounding areas...i haven't done any of that since i got it back in JAN...so about 20 bash sessions have been put down, so i guess some inspections are necessary...thanks for the input!!!

Oh yeah, she hole shots like a champ now, my buddy has a slayer, and i eat him off the line hardcore, he catches me, since the slayer is faster overall, but for a big truck like mine to hole shot a tiny one like that and keep a good distance till i hit top speed is pretty impressive...i do love these tires!!!!

Alright upon further inspection, my engine plate is in fact cracked...:duh:

So as i wait for my new one to come to my house, i replaced the CB with a 15 tooth racing bell (want that extra accel) a new set of clutch shoes, and some new bearings...now i gotta wait on the engine plate...then put her all back together...

What was the tip again for setting the mesh the right way...??? fold paper 2 times??? i forget what it was again!!!! i want to make sure i get it perfect this time and not ruin more parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:stickspank:

All back together, mesh set right, loctite and washers on the mill plate, had her out for about a half an hour to test and tune, and WOW!!!! that one less tooth on the CB made a hell of a difference. she is out like a fat kid in dodgeball, and the shifts are so smooth and swift, i hit top speed in no time, and tear the ground up in the process...Now that thats done, time to install that Futaba 3PM i got laying around, and better servos!!!!

That's why i use the plastic spur gear!

If you have metal spur gear and your mesh isn't right then the clutch bell doesn't have any thing to chew!

That's why if you have a plastic spur then the clutch bell will just eat that, instead of the clutch bell it's self !
