I have just bought the Savage XL 5.9 while my mate has the Savage 3.4.
My radio range is very short before the fail safe cuts in while the smaller 3.4 can go almost around a whole football field.

Very frustrating being ragged on because the little 3.4 kills my 5.9 in distance.:duh:

I have checked to make sure the antenna is all the way out and not kinked or cut. Everything is fully charged.
I have put in new crystals with no difference.

I have looked at the possibility of going 2.4ghz digital.

Your advice is appreciated..

Cheers

Sorry i can't give any help on fixing the radio you have now, hopefully 1 of the veterans here will chime in & give an answer cuz it would be kewl to save the coin if thats what you want to do.... the 3PM that i linked to you is a combo 2.4 MHz Transmitter & Receiver ... great deal & Phenominal system..

I would try a different receiver with the your crystals and see if you can replicate the problem. If it still has no range its probably the radio. Just keep eliminating componets to narrow it down. Crystals are always the first thing to try. Good Luck.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
I just purchased the Futaba 3PM 2.4GHz System. A little pricey due to the Oz Dollar at the moment.

I am sure I will be back for advice on setting it all up.:duh:

You may think that saying to go digital is an easy answer, and it is, but it is also one of the best upgrades for your truck. Eliminates the crystals and trying not to step on someones channel, the range is further than you can see, a built in fail safe, and it's very smooth. I use the 3PM myself.

But if you are looking to save the money, do as mentioned above with the crystals. Get a few channels. Also get a humpack if you haven't. Maybe the the failsafe is kicking in early when you are on the throttle/brake and steering.

Good luck and if your buddy gives you any lip, jump his truck with your XL!

Well said Whipnet!

I agree with these guys. You can try a different Receiver but I run the Futaba 2.4 3PM on all my stuff 2 radios between 6 R/C's and love it. It was the best move I ever made. These are about the best radio for the $$$, Just my .02.

Problem solved, the Futaba seems to of improved everything.
Still taking me a bit to get my head around it all lol.

One Question, the antenna being so short, what do most of you do with it.?
I have cut down the antenna tube and placed the cap over the top. Its nice and short out of the body
