I have been longing to get into R/C nitro for a couple years now, and finally took the plunge a couple of weeks ago by ordering a Savage 25 off of eBay. I got a pretty good deal and it came stock other than a Axial .28, 52T spur, and F-350 body.

I just wanted to say hello and post a couple pictures of my first painting attempt. I used three coats of Pactra Metallic Green and backed with two coats of Pactra Indy Silver. I must say, cutting the body was much more difficult than actually painting it because of my decision to remove the roof to my Jeep so that I could have a completely open body to reach the grab handle easily.

Enough chat, here're some pic's!

Oh, and I have a few questions:
Right now I am running the stock TF-4 and was thinking about investing in a Futaba 3PM 2.4ghz. It is my understanding that it will make my long distance running a lot smoother, are my assumptions correct? I also was thinking about throwing in a 3 speed kit with a third gear tall ratio upgrade, are these parts easy to install for a beginner? I've looked at the top mods for the savage and have noticed the three speed is on there, but I'm not sure how easy and foolproof it might be to install.

Thanks!

The Futaba is a good system .. Go for it man. You have a nice truck there my man .. If you want to get a 3 speed I would search ebay and get one allready complete. Get the xl 3 speed I think it allready comes w/ the high speed 3rd gear. You said you were running a 52 tooth spur .. I would ditch that and run a 49 or even better a 47 tooth w/ a 17/ or 18 tooth clutch bell . You will gain gobs of top speed if you do that.

That body looks great but I hope you don't do any very hard bashing b/c when you cut the top out of it . You made the body really weak.

We are gald to have you as a new member here at hpisf .. WELCOME .. If you have anymore ?'s please ask bro

Thanks for the info. I figured the body's strength would be compromised with the roof cut out, so I've kept the scuffed up F-350 that I've flipped and rolled a few times. The only thing I've broken has been a fuel tank, was tuning the truck without a body and rolled it after turning it a little too hard, but other than that, this thing has been surprisingly rigid in stock form.

Does anyone know of some easy/quick remove body clips? It's a pain to pull the clips and I'm looking for an easier way to mount the body. I've seen what looked like a twist lock body post in a thread on HPISF, but am yet to find some online. Any clues?

Welcome to the forum. Love it when people put some effort into a cool RC shot. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Nice Z06.

welcome!!!

and sweet lookin jeep ya got there. i think you just sold me on gettin one for the savvy. just never liked the look of the back end/ rollbar. but topless......looks good.

like the others said tho, don't bash!! excellent paint job too.

p.s. the 3pm system rocks.

Thanks all you guys, it's a truck I'm proud of.

I took my savage out again today to do some easy bashing with the Jeep body, I don't jump anything more than the street's gutter in this underdeveloped area that only has grass lots and streets, but I still managed to flip the truck. It seemed that even with the weight of the back of the truck, the rear roll bar didn't flex much, but the windshield did bend so that the truck was resting upside down on the grab handle and roll bar. So all in all, the cuts weren't that bad for body strength.

I don't think I'll be bashing for a couple days though, since I managed to pull out the starter cord while I was getting ready for a second tankfull's run. That's okay though, I was planning to pull the engine soon, as I've ordered a 18t clutch bell, 47t spur, and an XL's 3 speed per Jeremy's suggestion. I'm pretty excited, I just hope I can get it all back together once I've taken it apart. I think the 3PM will be the next upgrade, I'm tired of picking up the transmitter and having to trim it each time because I've knocked the knobs just slightly while transporting it.

Have any of you experienced any difficulties of reassembling the transmission?

its all easy stuff bud no worries. worst case holla for me in the shout. Ill help you on the spot or even go to phone support if needed...

BANKRUPTER, I might end up taking you up on that offer, hopefully I won't have to. Thanks.

bmcswusnavy, that's an awesome fix. I'll have my brother make me a few pieces in his shop at work (USCG). Thanks for the link.

No, that's a GPM pipe. And the paint is done by Venom Racing on their prepainted/precut F-350. They don't sell the black/white body anymore though, I think you can only get red/white and blue/white now.
