Diff gears cleaner

Hi all,

What do you all use to clean diff gears after pulling from the diff case?

Shaving cream, its basically alcohol and soap works good for me....

HUH, Shaving Cream thats a new one to me but I guess it may.

I use Brake Cleaner just watch any plastic.

Will "Simply Green" clean the gears then? That is one of the best degreaser i have used.

Yes it will nick. I use dish soap full strength and a tooth brush.

+1 on brake cleaner, just spray the grease off and let dry...and yes, it can attack plastic, so I would only use this with the gears completely removed.

Simple Green will work just fine, as will WD-40, both are safe on plastics.

Nick, here's a good video on diff rebuilding (which I know you already know how to do) but the stuff they used in the vid I tried and it worked pretty good. Also, here's a link to the tool that was used in the vid and where to find it. Hope these help you out.

I use brake cleaner also. It works great.
