31st October 2007 - HPI Nitro Star K5.9 Engine Information Uncovered - UPDATE (4th November 2007)
Today, we found an incredible piece of information in an online LRP Price List (LRP are the official distributor for HPI and Hot Bodies in Germany), referring to what appears to be a new engine that HPI will make called the Nitro Star K5.9, big brother to the very reliable and popular K4.6. The engine has not been officially released by HPI yet.

All we know so far is that the engine has 5.9cc of displacement, it will replace the K4.6, and is supposed to retail for €254.90 here in Germany, although we are sure that the hobby shops will charge less for it (they always do).

This engine will make a huge impact on the Savage world, as many people are sure to buy it. The K5.9 will probably make its way onto the next generation of Savages, being fitted as standard on the new models.

Update 4th November 2007 - In addition to the information above, a Google search revealed that the new K5.9 will feature ABC construction, a 3-port sleeve, a 9.5mm composite slide carburetor, a gunmetal heatsink head (aluminium), and will be fitted with HPI's R5 glow plug from the factory.

wow well now I'm gonna have to save my money to get me one of them lol whats website did you find that on?

good point Sami lol. I have been wondering, I have read that the big mill with the truckzilla's the .42 or .45 whatever it is, is not that great of a mill cause it is all torque (if I remember correctly) I guess what I am asking is, is there a point sizewize where it is not as good as the ,28's- .32's I see most people using, or is it just the way that truckzill mill is made?

I would think bigger is better but I don't see many people using anything over a .32, just wondering what the reason is?

I think the Truckzilla motors are just Crap. If you look on the bay you'll find like whole lots of those mills and seems most all need pistons and sleeves. I think they are just not real good mills. The power would be sweet,I almost got one. But then again WHY? I can't drive now what I need more power for? My ,28 and .26 can allow me to destroy my trucks just fine, Why would I need to do it faster or with more torque? lol

actually, the reason for that is the same reason I got a whole box of broken nitrostar .25 motors...there are guys on there that buy all of the broken "warranty replaced" motors from HPI (and now Hotbodies as well, since they're virtually the same company)...apparently when the company gets a warranty claim in (broken con rod/crank shaft.crank case/piston/sleeve, etc) it's usually cheaper or easier to just pull the defective motor and throw a brand new one in...the guys on eBay buy up all the broken ones, and sell them as-is, or for parts...I bought about 25 broken .25 motors that all had different issues...the same guy also sells the HB .46 motors for parts...

as far as the performance of the motor, stock ones are rumored to not hold a tune very well...but there have been a few guys on here, that have modded theirs (port and polish jobs, etc) and gotten very good results from the engines...both in tuning and performance...

I personally have 2...one in need of being rebuilt (I bought it used, as parts) and one brand new, never seen nitro...but, having not ever run either of them, I can't give a firsthand account yet, and can only report on what I've read here on the forums...

back to the subject at hand...good find with the new HPI mill...it'll be interesting to see how it performs...

That may be. I just see a whole box full of busted mills and makes me think why. Good point. I have no first hand exp with them but most I see are broke so I wondered about the reasons. I'd like to try one but to go to the bay and look and most what I find are broke.

Here's a leaked picture of the new 5.9, looks like a beast.

from what I understand, they're the result of people not following proper break-in procedure, etc, and running the motors too hard during break-in or whatever...some of the HB .46 mills he was selling were virtually new...they were just ran as random spot/quality checks on the assembly line...

Thats cool. I may try one one day, but as it stands I have no shortage of running mills. The .46 sounds awesome 5hp in a Savage is just rediculous Insane. Would definitly be a blast. I'd surely need a spare truck as parts.

Do not test me. I will burn your skin with 230 degree exhaust coming out of my purple pipe.:buttshake:

yea do we know if da motor will just bolt into the standard savage chassi or will we have 2 change things like the TVPs and the mounting points
also do u know how long it would probabally be b4 it come into Australia
gr8 find crash

heck ya, hpi is not going to take the back seat to all these other mfg.

It reminds me of the harley davidson phenominon, all these after market companys popped up makeing parts for harleys and everyone has to customize.

now, you cant compete with harleys custom add on parts for fit and quality.
they evan stepped up to offer full out custom paint jobs.

coming soon , custom painted savy bodys at hpi ?..................lol

I'm thinkin that that one in the pic will find its home in the hellfire!....maybe????.............but i can see a purple headed version showin up in a savage soon........i think most likely in an ss kit

I think you missed the sarcasm...

Three engines back to back... k59 is a 3 piston monster. As a joke...
