Hey guys,

i'm getting a bit of newbie dismantling fear at the moment ... loads of screws and different threads and i don't seem to be anywhere nearer getting the actual diffs out!!

i've uploaded some photos of where I am with the front diff. the pdf I found was for the savage X and it made it look dead easy, I had no idea how different the savage 3.5 is ... totally different beast!!

it seems from where I am now that i need to break apart the whole chassis!! in order to get the front suspension tower out as the diff assembly is bolted to that ... it seems.

I dreading taking the rear end apart now. :O(

any pointers would be great ...

Unfortunitely if you do not have the X style diff housing, correct me if I'm wrong, you will have to completely take out the diff housing to get inside of it.

Poor Poor Savage ... it looks like Robocop in Robocop 3 after being broken up into bits ...

After the kid gets done with him and dumps him on the polices door step. Such a low time for robocop.

hpi has the manuals you need to indentify every part and exploded views of everything. free to download and print

Thanks for that crash ... I had my bible next to me the whole time. Its not such a major job is it ... it looks a damn sight easier on the Savage X however.

Anyway, all done now. I have the diffs boxed up and ready to post to ModelSportUK tomorrow. I'm just currently debating whether I should ask them to do the alu diff casing upgrade AND shimming them both whilst they have them? You never know, they may do me a deal on those as the originals broke so quickly and I'm willing to spend more cash with them ...

Worth a shot ...

Well I had another update from ModelSport today. they received my diffs in the post today and they will be shimming them for me and possibly replacing the casings with Savage X alu casings if needed. Should have them back in my grubby paws next week ...

Was just wondering about what grease folks recommend for the outer casing?
