I am really concerned that both the ring and pinion in the from differential have stripped out. Of the 13 teeth on the pinion, 3 are left and all the teeth on the ring are worn to a nubs!!! I can replace them easy enough, but WHY did that happen? The truck is not even three months old. Are there things I should do or not do? I'm always thinking "ROOT CAUSE" (why, why, why?). Please help,

ck

In my opinion it is odd that the front diffs went out first. most of the torque ends up at the rear wheels.

you can replace the front diff complete for anout 25 dollars. with hd out drives , shimmed ready to go. Ill post you a link.

They stripped b/c there is too much side to side movement.(meaning the diff moves from side to side ) in the diff case . you have to shimm those diffs that crash posted .. (every diff needs to be shimmed) ...IMO

Also jumping and landing at 1/2 to full throttle will strip thoes diffs really quick

SJ in the description of these diffs it says they are shimmed.also, I did not feel any play in them when I put them in.

You are looking at a new Savage 4.6 X which can be used for Front or Rear includes easy access, aluminum differential cases. The updated differential has 4 gears plus it has shims for added strength.. Also included hardened output shafts..You will receive everything that is pictured.

Yea but the bearings that are on the diff cup and the 43 tooth .. Most of them don't seat well. Thus causing the side to side movement in the cases .. ALSO when you get a gallon or more on those bearings (witch IMO are crap) they have allot of play in them .. again causing the side to side movement. They don't come shimmed they way they should be.. I know this because I have bought about 4 of these diffs. (2 from nitronutz)

I posted a link in the gears section of the 2 different size shimms you need to shimm the diffs right.

Believe me on this guys ALLOT of you know my past diff problems .. Note my title ... once I got the correct shimming my diffs are almost bullet proof

lol.

I am waiting for the day that my diffs go out. I think they are the only things I haven't replaced yet, lol..............and the stock 2 bevel gears at that!

Should I shim equally on both sides? Or should I shim so the ring is tighter to the pinion? There appears to be a LARGE amount of play. I have already bought 2 sets of bevel gears. I'll go with the complete diff. after that. Thanks, ck

hey crash will those diffs work in my 25,i just stripped the rear diff out last week

Email Rob at nitronutzz he will hook you up.

He knows what you need.

I just did my 25 but, I don't want to steer you wrong. Its well worth it,
you will need : skid plates, shock towers, hex style cross bar. I might be forgetting something for sure. ask Rob. Tell him I sent you for 10 % off bud.
And to hold it all together I would and did, upgrade your cross members from plastis to aluminum. Integy makes a set for 18 bucks.

site jester is right, When I bought my new 4.6 they were tight. about a half gallon in I blew the pinion. replaced the pinion and found alot of side to side movement. Shimmed them both and haven't had any problem since. Shim the diff closer, just make sure it spins freely and doesn't bind

The Savage 25 comes stock with 2 bevel gears but has an bag to build a new diff with 4 bevel gears.

time will tell
