FLM Ofna 250 Mid Tank Build

In the middle of mocking up a FLM mid tank build and just wondered how people with a similar build have position their steering servos

Reason I ask is because after trying a few different combinations I’ve found the side of the Right TVP to be the best, which will require a longer linkage - but the servo I’m using means that I can’t button up the last skid plate screw. See photos that hopefully explain.

Not sure if it helps as a side note - while looking at the K5.9 - there is a plastic insert that kind of clips into the HSN - I’ve found d that mine had wiggled down - so when trying to reset back to stock settings it was way off - hsn should look like this

Wondering if anyone has any guide on throttle.

My mid-tank has the throttle / brake servo moved into the empty space where the fuel tank originally sat.

How/where did you mount the steering servo - I'm using a Savox and wanted to keep the rubber mounting grommets as a bit of a buffer - wondering if the cushion the rubber grommet is taking up means that the skid plate mount is getting squished.

Would it be OK to run a servo mounted solid to the TVP without the rubber grommets?

The Savage with the forward sitting "mid-mounted" fuel tank has FLM Savage X equivalent chassis plates with a FLM servo / battery plate.

The steering servo is mounted in its normal spot, and the fuel tank sits off to its left.
The battery is located behind the fuel tank.

The throttle / brake servo sits where the fuel tank normally sits, and is attached to what I assume are FLM servo stand-offs; that are in turn attached to the chassis plate.
TBH - I bought this Savage used and someone else configured it before me.

Would it be OK to run a servo mounted solid to the TVP without the rubber grommets?

I'm sure that it's not the optimal arrangement, but I can think of bigger sins in life.
A long time ago someone told me the rubber absorbs vibrations and thus prolongs the life of the servo. I don't know...
Mount it however you can get it to work.
I'm sure at some point in my life I've mounted servos sans the rubber grommets.
It's possible that I'm guilty of that transgression at this very moment.

Mocking the build up before threadlock it all up - 50/50 on whether to remove the grommets to find the extra room - or keep the grommets and maybe cushion underneath the servo with some foam - the skid plate has a bit of give - a hard enough impact at the right angle would probably come in contact with the servo

Have been doing a hodge podge job to get another mid tank build since I managed to get 2 ofna 250 tanks - will try and load some photos later to show my work of art - but again - the throttle servo is still a decison in terms of how to mount and the standard savage xl TVPs don't lend themselves really to the mid tank mod

You could just remove the skid plate.
None of my Savages has one.
For my driving style (dirt and grass - some rocks and stones), the drivetrain and differentials are adequately protected without one.

The below doesn't look like a "standard savage xl TVP".
Are you trying to match this with a different build using HPI XL TVP's?

Yes different mid tank build - purchased some clear perspex and have cut it to mimic the servo mount plate like FLM and Innovative RC sell - but the standard X XL TVPs don't have a natural place to mount the servos to.

If you imagine the stock XL TVPs on top of the FLM plates - the servo screw mounts kind of sit either side of the stock plates where the X intersects. My first strategy was to order from Innovative RC - that didn't pan out - then decided to do a custom job - still a WIP - then after some blood sweat and tears - though it would be sensible to buy some a purpose built kit - I think FLM are the only place you caan purchase a savage mid tank kit nowadays.

Here are some photos of the other scratch build - didn’t notice before - but the Ofna 250 tank - doesn’t have a flat bottom so I’m going to use some Velcro for the flat part and a Velcro strap in the right place

think FLM are the only place you caan purchase a savage mid tank kit nowadays.

I honestly have no idea. So many products have come and gone over the years that I can't keep track.
I do like FLM TVPs.

though it would be sensible to buy some a purpose built kit

I bought my "mid-tank" used off of eBay and it is definitely not an OEM purpose-built mid tank kit.
Besides the FLM TVPs, it has a 3-servo FLM servo plate.
The steering servo slots right in where it always has, and the throttle servo is moved back to where the fuel tank used to be.
The fuel tank posts are rudimentary as can be, but they work.


Speaking of FLM and purpose built - here's one of my future projects.
A transmission forward FLM not quite roller with FLM bulkheads and shock towers.
It was configured / ran electric, but it also came with the nitro engine plate.
This might be my first attempt at an electrified Savage.
Also bought this one used off the bay.
I think that the guy that put this thing together did one heck of a job.
