Yes. Some how I have 12mm hex. Lol. I got truck the way it is. 15 yrs ago. Now rebuilding n finding all kinds of headaches lolThose calipers clearly read 14mm...
Yeah, I thought it said 14mm too... the dash for 0 on the sliding part is on the 14 mark on the non-sliding part. Those calipers clearly read 14mm...
I have these original tires and wheels off of an older nitro powered savage. 2 of the tires have tear in sidewalls.Well I'm gona run till they go out. I have my 17mm hex now. I'm looking for a set wheels n tires for all terrain . Any good set that you know about? Thanks big help.
Has anyone tried Traxxas’ 17mm wheel hex? They have notches in then. I’m looking at upgrading the 14mm hex and get paddle tires for the snow. Traxxas makes paddle tires and they use this type of hex that is apparently compatible with reg 17mm hex. Any thoughts??
They don't fit. HPI axles have a shoulder on them that is 8mm (I think) and the HPI specific hubs have a relief cut in them to fit over that while still having a 6mm hole for the threaded part. Traxxas hubs are smaller where the pin goes through.
I have used Traxxas 17mm wheel hexs on a couple of my Savages with not issues of wobbly hubs. Yes they do need to be drilled out, but not all the way through. Drill them out from 6mm to 8mm in stages i.e. start with a 6.5 drill and work up in 0.5mm steps until at 8mm, doing it like this can be done with a cordless drill as the drill will centre in the hole and will keeping it straight. If you drill in one hit from 6 to 8mm then yes you will probably end up with wobbly hubs.Really easy if you have a drill press. Tried that before freehand and ended up with a set of wobbly hubs.
The big difference is these cost around £70 a set + postage, where as the modified Traxxas ones cost £7-8 with postage. They are available again. Picked up a set. They are the only way to go. Tired the other adapters. Was not satisfied. https://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/160141
That is very true about the number of threads but you can tell that before purchase visibly, Also these HPI ones need to be used with the 11mm heavy duty dog bones which only the flux and XL came with as standard. So anyone with an older nitro or X savage would need to change from the 9mm to these 11mm ones which would mean changing the diff cups aswell. Quite an expense. Even if you use the Rovan Torland Flux ones which are cheaper than HPIThe difference is how many threads are available to hold the wheel nut on. First set tired, was less than the nut width. If one gets a full nut on then others may work fine. Also the set comes with the long outboard axles and the spacers. Much more then just the end adapter.
