Back in the game with a new Savage 21 build

I bought the silver 4mm thick 1" rear 6mm front extended lcg set. £63. They haven't arrived yet, but I have emailed and they responded, so hopefully all good.

The shocks were part of a bundle I bought, may not even use them....

I am hoping for a silver frame, skids and arms, purple gearboxes (front centre and rear) purple bulkheads, various other silver and purple additions. The shell I am putting on is a jeep shell (high back) and hopefully orange and black paint job.

I would not recommend orange for paint :D But cant wait.

I emailed them through the site contact link. Had a couple of messages from them so maybe try that? Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Strange that’s exactly what I done, perhaps I will try again!
I even sent back a centre skid plate to them at my own expense but didn’t mind as they sent two out FOC to try for size!

Richard emailed me today to say they were manufactured and has put them in the post.

Okay happy Days,I was sent there extended TVPs FOC back 15yrs ago when they first started making them for me to try out.
This was when I raced savage in club meetings & it did help improve handling of truck but with better big bore shocks & sway bars both of which were not around back then I’am hoping handling will improve some more! ??

Been away for a fair bit. Just purchased a second hand Savage 21 and am looking to put a XL 5.9 in her. Firstly, any major issues with this?

I will probably lengthen her a bit too and put a wheelie bar on. I will be dismantling the truck when it arrives and replacing anything that needs it. I may try to lose the purple, but I'll see how hard that is when shes apart.

Any upgrades /hop-ups you can recommend?

I want to build a great truck that goes like stink. Any help is welcome, and I'm not too concerned with how much this is going to cost, it just needs to be epic!!

While I admire your truck for the "coolness" factor, i'm no fan of using aluminum everywhere just for looks. Your adding a ton of extra weight which ultimately robs engine hp. Aluminum tends to pass impact stresses to mated composite components causing them to prematurely fail. Savage chassis needs a certain amount of "flex" to absorb impacts and in certain circumstances composite parts are actually better suited. But I also respect each persons taste as far as mods. Just trying to get folks to think in alternate directions. My philosophy is skip the aluminum bling, and spend your money on quality wheels and tyres. Spend time getting your ideal setup with gearing and suspension. As for a true one piece Savage pipe, RD Logics is the only mfg I know of that makes a true Savage bolt in pipe. This pipe will work with std TVP's and the 8 shock setup. RD is in the USA, but I'm sure they can ship to the UK

Part#: 62815 - One Piece Rear Exhaust Pipe Set For Hpi Savage 25 And Up (rdlogics.com)

The problem with trying to fit "buggy" pipes to a Savage is the fact they are typically mounted on the left side of the vehicle. Savage pipes are on the right. This causes issues with the location of the pressure nipple on the pipe, the discharge pipe orientation of the exhaust will be incorrect, and the manifold spring mount holes will also be incorrect. I have modded buggy pipes to fit a Savage but it's a PIA and generally look a little odd. If your only going to be running a 2 pc pipe then buggy pipes will work a little easier as you have the ability to rotate the muffler body as needed to better fit the Savage chassis.

Thanks for the input Polar.

I intend to build 2 savages, one for bashing and smashing, and one for looks and general sexyness....

The metal savage will be just that. Metal. no composite pieces for forces to transfer. As things stand, the only part that may stay plastic, is the radio box. I am deffo no expert with these things, although I do get a little obsessed with things (which is why i sold my original beast). I have probably already spent a thousand quid or so on 2 trucks and a load of parts...
