First startup of the Nova today. I need to make some adjustment on the carb, obviously. Also have no brakes right now which is why the wheels are in free spin. But, SHE’S ALIVE!! Pretty stoked. I haven’t ran a nitro engine in close to 10 years. That smell. ?

Nova First Start
 
This thing is ready for break-in. I put a half hour of static runtime on the engine this morning. No adjustments, ran perfect. I’m itching to start break-in driving but our weather isn’t looking great...

I’m pretty stoked at how it turned out. Took some figuring out for a few things but being able to make parts myself eases the issues. Having a poop load of spare parts helps too. I think I can build another truck if I wanted...?
 
Love it!! All very well put together, not a half-arsed job. This thing is gonna be an absolute monster! ?

Do you plan on putting sway bars onto the rig? Noticed on the last couple photos that you don't have any, made a huuuge difference to the handling when I put them on mine. Would highly recommend it!
 
HyperNova sitting next to BigBlue. That LRP only has about 2 tanks through it...not even completely broke in yet. I’m going to tear that down, clean and rebuild it. Fix some things I don’t like about it. I’ll put a new thread up on that.

@mess1ah1 That the spec.4 motor? I had that in my rig before my electric conversion. Still having sitting around somewhere cause it never died. Just the clutch shoes that gave way before I converted.

Loved that engine so much!! #blueisbetter
 
Made a few changes today. Got brakes installed and changed to a 47 tooth spur. Dug around in my plethora of parts and found a brand new suspension conversion set I hadn’t used. So since this ain’t a basher I decided to install it. Mean ass stance.

It’s actually a spec 2 from 2014. It’s been sitting awhile in the box...
Thats what I had in the rig before the spec.4 ?
Sadly tho I think I blew it up, had no idea what I was doing with nitro when I had that motor. RIP spec.2, you were a good solider.
 
I didn't care for the suspension conversion. Kept snapping the bolts off holding the inside end of the turnbuckle and it would allow the arm to steer so far that the front bones kept popping out of the diffs. Mine came with the conversion and I removed it to go back to stock X parts.
 
It definitely isn’t for use in bashing. At least the front parts anyway. You have to ensure you adjust the turn rates (EPA) so you don’t have that dogbone issue too. I like the kit for the application.
 
You can probably get away without it but you may have alignment issues you’ll have to sort out.
 
Changed over to this combo today. Gives me a 2.44 ratio which is the fastest I can get with what I have on hand. We shall see what we shall see.29A177D6-97D6-4C39-A6CE-82AEC83CCF58.jpeg
 
What clutch are you running?

Did you start a thread about the LRP yet? I've fought with a 28 and 30 of mine a lot... likely user error... never was all that great with tuning these things. Partly why I never took the Picco 28 I bought a long time ago out of the box...
