Guy's, I've been digging and I found (as some may have seen/know) a mod to put hpi Baja front shocks on the Savage. It looks easy enough and I'm thinking of making the jump. Any experience with this mod? PROPS TO RCCOH for the info! As typical, most of the parts are discontinued(titanium lowers) but, the mod is still doable!

I have seen that mod as well. From what I gathered the shocks are much to stiff for the savage. Only thing I can see them being good for is major air. The springs would be way stiff on bumpy ground and throw it everywhere making it hard to control. Just my opinion

I was also thinking the same thing unless I can put a lighter weight oil and go with a softer spring rate?

Might be easier to go with the LST shocks since that kit is still available. Monster RC has a conversion kit to install those shocks. They also sell their own beefy shocks too. Could be money better spent going that route. Then you get something that is more tuneable.

You can run like a 3 in 1 machine oil in the shocks to get a buttery smooth soft and light dampening action and just cut the springs down a bit at a time with spacers if needed. A worthy mod if u take the time to tune them right. Keep modding your savages people. Have fun with them or this site and hpi will die!! Try interesting things and share with everyone!

To late for that amigo, guess what showed up at the house while I was away at work! That's right, big beastie! Spent some quality time at the table once everyone went to bed...haha!

Keep posting your progress. I'm getting pretty annoyed at replacing shock ends on my stupid big bores every other run and spending $15 on a parts tree to get 4 of them. I'm getting nearly up to double digits on shock ball ends since I got the truck in July last year. I've spend $45 on parts trees to get 12 stupid ball ends...

Really wish I had a drill press... I took one of the larger tie-rod ends and drilled a 3mm hole down further almost to the ball end, then cut off just enough of the neck so it would be the same length as the shock ball end. My drill got a little off, so the hole I drilled isn't exactly straight, but it appears there's a bit more material on those ball ends where mine keep snapping off.

I have a feeling my issues with ball ends is related to the RPM arms and running single big bore shocks. The arm twists upon impact or on big air landings, which snaps my ball end off right at the end of the shock shaft threads.

My broken ones vs the one I modified to try:

First thing I want to see is a 20ft jump lol. Definitely curious how it's going to work. I may be buying a Baja 5b if my savage sells. Will go good with my mtxl lol

Those look way beefier, hopefully they hold up. I haven't had issues yet but I haven't ran hard either. I'm running the rpm arms and and the integy big bore shock bodies.

Will do, it will take some time as a couple of the parts are pricey. I'll keep on it, I hope to have it done for spring. I just picked up some Nitro today-VP 30%, I'm switching from my beloved O'Donnell due to availability & the Hobbico debacle! I'm a little cranked about it but what can ya do.
