Hey Guys, I've been shopping around for a new engine for my XL. LRP was my first choice, but as I posted a few days ago, they are going under. I then found some threads here and there about the Nova 28-8, and that looks like a good affordable engine, but on the official Novarossi site I was greeted with "out of production" banners:

That probably explains why novarossidirect.com has those for such a decent price. So it's 2018 and I need a big block nitro engine....are my choices limited to the Big Red .28 or the HPI f4.6? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I bought an OFNA .32 engine recently, if you search e bay you will find many choices...

Thanks for the suggestion, I think I'm worrying too much about whether or not an engine is discontinued. I always see posts about needing to change the con rod after a few gallons of fuel, I'm just concerned I'll be stuck with a $200 paperweight if there's no parts support.

Ive owned many rc engines over the last 30 yrs and have never needed parts support for anything other than crash damage. If you treat the engine rite and it was made rite, it should last a very very long time. Back off on the setting a bit and let the engine live. Unless your racing then hells no have at it man. By the way, if youre racing in a class that allows our awesome savvys you should feel really lucky.

Every LRP I've had has lasted at least 10 gallons with me running it and running it pretty hard. That's the most I kept track of with my first LRP28 I put into a losi aftershock while I had it. Then I sold the truck as a roller and later sold the engine. 10 gallons for me in one engine is a very long time considering I run 2 or 3 trucks typically. If you can still find one, I wouldn't have a second thought about buying it even though they aren't being made anymore.

Personally, I'd steer clear of the dynamite engines with the combination pull/spin start as it's very fragile. Also, the few dynamite "mach" engines I've had didn't hold up more than 5 or so gallons before needing a pinch done due to compression loss. I've only had a few though over the years.

That said, I have an old school picco 28 new in it's box in a drawer. I got it for a fairly good price many years ago with the intent on putting it in the aftershock when the LRP died... it never died, so I never used it. I'd be willing to let it go for the right price.

I just change mine with Hobao Hyper 30 engine. Still doing my breaking in. So far sounds great.
You might want to look into that. Runs on turbo plugs as well.

Thanks guys for all the great advice, I appreciate it. I ended up buying a Nova 28-8 from novarossidirect, can't wait to get the Savage rolling again!

I have a question and sense you bought the Nova 28-8 seams like a good one(with out hyjacking the thread). Is/are Novarossi and REX the same company? I have seen the Nova legend 28-8 and REX legend 28-8 both names are printed on the engines? What's that all about? Does REX sub out manufacturing to Nova? I've been looking at The Nitro Shop modified Legends due to the lack of big blocks.

I had a Tns modified lrp30 in my savage xl,
it was such a powerful engine, have since put it into my lst2

Was looking a replacement motor for my savage xl and came across the
Carson force v36 rotostart engine,
brand new for £80 plus £7 postage from Germany to Ireland
I offered the seller £73 and was accepted,

He was selling 2 others engines on eBay,
Search for Carson force 5.9 v36
