I feel like my savage xl could use some thicker springs as all the spacers are installed and it still bottoms out on the bigger jumps. Does anyone know where do get some better stiffer springs?

Many thanks

You can also change the weight of the oil in the shocks, just an option. I think stock hpi shock oil for the Savage is 30 wt?

I have got some thicker oils and haven't messed around with them yet but I think the springs do most of the work and mine have seen better days and I feel could be stiffer

I'm also not sure if the shocks are supposed to be shifted like this, the overall suspension isn't very smooth along the travel

Not real sure on your set up but the shock shouldn't be that close to the camber/castor link arm. It may just be the angle of the pick. One thing I did notice on my shocks was that grit and grime gets loaded up on the shock barrel and that two stage plastic sleeve will bind up. It should slide freely along the length of the shock barrel. I usually pull the outer works of my shocks apart and give everything a good cleaning in the winter. Also, if the shock barrel is to marred up you can smooth it back out with some 400 to 600 grit sand paper.

Thanks JVT! I should tear them down and give them a clean for sure but I'm debating whether to get the irc set as to me it looks like the top of the shock needs to be spaced out further so I can get the clearance from that arm

I run hellfire white springs on mine with the short stock springs. Think I'm running 40 or 50 weight, can't recall. It does really well on the jumps. Was too soft with stock flux springs.

Oil controls compression rate more than the spring on a jump. The spring does more for the rebound rate. Going with thicker oil without heavier springs will make it very sluggish to rebound off a jump.

Thanks for the info old's. I'm not sure what life my truck has had as I bought it used and think it's quite an old truck. I've just ordered a set of irc shocks and his mouthing kit so hopefully that should help all round.

I've got the IRC kit installed now and have the opposite issue happening lol! very stiff atm but the springs will ease up a bit and I can put lighter weight oils in
