not shure i haven't takin it apart! i was scared of shimming, i heard alot of horror stories about it so i decited to just upgrade to the better xl diffs. but my guess would be the gear that goes out the most.,. lol. it just started catching and making a crunching sound one day so i disconnected it. i see what you are getting @ "it may be cheep enough just to fix it for the weekend" Right! so what do you think it probebley is ? again its the 21 so its just the two gear

I would wager a guess that you blew the spider gears to peices. Take it apart and see. What ever you did you can use what you just got take the outdrives from your broken diff and put them in the new one. You can do that front and back and save the money that you would need to spend to buy dogbones and axles. Up to you. If you do that I might even buy the outdrives off of you.

i see what you are getting @ but would that be a smart thing to do i mean how much does the gear go for just to fix the old diff then i could save my new ones for when i get the money for the parts i need??

I think spider gears are like 9 on the net but like 15 at a HS but you may have busted a ring or pinion gear too. I would recomend shimming your diffs this time though.

You can keep them and put the outdrives back in when you get the dogbones and axles but in the mean time you would have your truck back. You said you have to wait a month till you will have the money to buy the rest of what you need that is a long time to not have your truck. Trust me I know.

I am going to help him do just that.

hey pope we all went out to eat last night so i dident get a chance to call ya i did however put the old diffs back on my savy i figure ill keep it two wheel drive till next month then get the proper parts i need . thanks for the help and if their is anything else i may need to do this please let me know..

do you think the older gears would mess the new ones up???

No you are going to use all new ones the out drives are just like axles they don't have gears themselves. You are going to take the new pinion gears and diffs and put them in you current bulkheads since you don't have all of the parts to put the new bulkheads in yet. It is a decent bit of work but you will have your savage running again till you can get the rest of what you need.

yep. Easy as pie. I am recording the next podcast tonight so give me a call saturday after 3:15pm EST and I will be more than happy to walk you through it. If you have skype on your computer I can even show you how to do it over a video call.

Now all you need is the cross member. and you can use the x bulkhead. That is all you need to use the diffs though.
