I need to get a reliable digital coreless throttle servo asap, these analog servos are killing me with lack of speed and power. I was thinking about moving my Hitec 5955tg to throttle and purchasing a Hitec 7955tg for my steering, any objections? I need a servo that's water and dust proof. all recommendations welcome.

I have a 5955tg for steering and have had no problems with it. Come to think of it I have never heard of any problems with Hitec.

My HS-645mg just died on throttle/brake (6months on steering, fine, 5mins on throttle and it dies??)

Bought a HS-5625mg to replace it.
 
i run the same t/b as crash and also a 5985mg on steer & like whips haven't had a problem.

I'm interested to know if Fx has had troubles caz ive heard others don't particularly care for Hitec, just wondering the reasoning.

that being said, I'm in the market for a steer for the flux & came across this which specifically states "water & dust tight" http://storefront.smfstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=33_56&products_id=2054 also says "robot servo" so idk if it is or isnt recommended for a savage?

Well from my personal experience I've had 3, count em', 3 Hitec servos go out on me. Still haven't called Hitec to see if they will replace them.

Others swear by Hitec but based off of my experience I would stay clear of Hitec servos.


To the OP- I linked you to some very powerful servos. I use a HPI SF-2 for throttle and brake. It performs perfect. It locks up the brake is is plenty fast for me. I don't know why you want a digital servo, when there really isn't a need. From my experience throttle/brake performance is 70% how well your linkages are set up and 30% the actual servo itself. Obviously I just made up those percentages but you get my point. Unless I'm missing something, I say try your stock servos if you still have them. I've also used the HPI SF-1 and it still locks up my brakes, it's just a little "jumpier" ie. not as smooth operation.

Yep, id call that a pretty good reason Paul.

If you still have them, it might be worth a call to Hitec because ive heard from my LHS that they carry a lifetime warranty if true, you could prob replace them and sell/trade/use them.

I haven't got my 2.4 ghz tx in the mail yet so someone with a one let me know if you can adjust the end points on a stock analog servo or not. If you can't then theres a good reason to get a digital servo for T/B. I would imagine you could but I'm not sure.

Yes, you can set endpoints on analog or digital servo's. Just make sure you are running on analog mode (PPM) with analog servos or you'll fry them quick.

Doing my best not to high jack his thread....

What do you do if you run a analog servo for T/B and a digital on for steering?

I've burned out 3 servos in the throttle/brake pos in 2 months. I'm tired of analog servos, they are slow and weak and the travel distance is poop. I want a fast digital servo with more throw to grab my brakes hard and me not worrying if its wearing out.

Hmm well in that case it is better if your using a 2.4 ghz TX to use a digital servo for T/B assuming your also running a digital for your steering. Learned something new.

If you can afford it, it's best to go all digital. I run all digital everything in all of my rigs. Makes a HUGE difference in the crawler where things are precise.

plus fx I use a dsm system and have a digital steering servo and an analog throttle servo, I do want them all to be digital, I want to do banks throttle mod so I can have that speed

While I give props to bank for being innovative, I did try that mod many different ways and found the speed to be no faster than the traditional linkage setup. IMO it's really just aesthetics.
 
Just changed my t/b servo from the sf1 to sf2 because of this thread never thought about doing that. wow what a change my breaks work again. I know cheep servo but one thing at a time.

AJ, check out the specs on these servos. i just pm'd Nick at SMF to see if he can get them. Crazy speed, power & 8 O-rings to keep out dust, water, etc.

just saw this & yep, using shorter linkage rods may prevent loss of servo torque between source and destination but wouldnt increase speed; need to flex your visa card for the bank throttle speed.
 
I agree with Pope on the sf-2. My sf-1 went out after like 3 weeks so HPI sent me the hot bodies version of the sf-2 and man what a difference. My truck was picking the back tires up every time I hit the brakes LOL! Now why did they not just make the savage with that servo, you know it wouldn't have cost that much more for them to do.

I think they do now. The XL comes with an SF-2 for t/b right?

I used my sf-2 as the t/b servo for almost 2 years with no problem. I fried it by using the wrong profile on my radio which had a digital settings for the t/b servo instead of analog.

Can you fry your digital servos if you have your tx set to analog?
