excuse the ignorance but why the spacer set as well? is the fit of the Z845 on the savage different to the MT2 and Hellfire meaning it needs the spacers as well?

The metal spacer will not wear out like the brass did on yours. That will happen about every half gallon or so. The purple top is to keep the metal spacer and shims in place.
