I have an xl and I'm tired of nitro so i want to go BL.

Money is not an issue. if somebody could give me a list of parts i need it would be greatly appreciated.

I want something decent. please be specific and feel free to link me to items that you feel would be beneficial in my build.

i need to know things such as battery type, best transmission etc...

I'm looking to build a nice basher.

Thank you very much

To be honest there are to many combo's you can go with. I would suggest getting in contact with Jason at PRC and doing a complete CF build. I believe he quoted me 310 with all the CF parts shipped. Here's the link to his site. http://www.platinumrcproducts.com/products.html As far as transmission you can just switch out the gears and save a little money. Hopefully someone else will give you a part number or link to one. Look for bullet proof diffs on ebay you can find them there usually for like 40-50. My suggestion is look up some of the guy's on here BL conversion build thread and get some Ideas from them. You're going to need a motor and ESC thats for sure. A few places on ebay sell the flux 2200kv tork motor for like 90 but the ESC is usually the same price 150. As far as lipos if you want to save a little money I suggest the sly lipos or blue lipos, no less than 5k mAh and maybe a 2S or 3S.

is the Castle Creations Mamba Monster 25V + 5mm 2200 kV a good motor and esc? and how do i go about mounting it?

hey basher.

tim gave you a bunch of great advice. if $$ is not an issue and your budget is about $1500 (give or take).

a lot of your questions are gonna be answered in my build thread where i have links to platinum r/c, pics on how i mounted the esc etc. https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11813

i used the ext length, if your looking ot stay with the XL length, you can go with the XL tvps and extended motor plate to make mounting your esc behind the motor and inside the tvps MUCH MUCH easier. Follow along jeff's build on the XL PRC Flux. https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16606&highlight=triplesix

check those threads and hit us up with any questions.

and YES, the Castle Creations MMM or Savage Flux Blur/Tork combo are both excellent systems and both identical systems as they are both made by Castle Creations this system (with stock gearing) was designed to handle the big weight of monster trucks.

the major difference is the hpi flux blur and tork have a different diameter motor can and will direct fit the flux motor mount where you have to dremel the motor mounts out (pain in the butt) if you want to mount the larger diameter castle motor in this mount.

The 25V is for 1/18 scales. You need this one from HPI http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXRZ9&P=7 or this one from castle creations. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVHA5&P=ML Not saying order them form TowerHobbies because you can find them cheaper but just to give you a idea of which one you will need. As long as it's for a 1/8th scale and not any smaller. The smaller the 2nd number for a scale size the bigger the car is.

you guys are both talking about the same system. the MMM max input voltage is 25.2V and is for 1/8 MT's not 1/18th scale.

hmm. well after doing some math I'm thinking maybe ill just sell my xl and get a baja 5t.

my 5.9 has about a gallon through it and i cant get it tuned right. so I'm probably just gonna sell it while its in nice shape and go with gas powered.

nitro is a pain in my rear.

i dunno. which do you think will be more satisfying?

baja 5t or an xl brushless?

i cannot decide. i just want something fun and reliable because it seems nitro is the most unreliable thing out.

maybe ill stick with the brushless idea.

heres what i need to know. since i already own an xl do i need to replace my tvp's or are the factory ones fine?

I am going to go with the flux motor and esc with the flux battery holders. what happens with the throttle servo once you switch to brushless? how will my throttle and brakes work now?

can i just use a flux motor mount or is there something I'm missing?

also what do i do about the 3 speed?

If money is no issue i would say go with Carbon Fiber TVPs, motor plate and shock towers from Platinum Rc , Then with Alloy bulk heads from GH and the other fixings of the flux, I wouldn't get the conversion kit due to the fact that you can get all the parts for cheaper on the bay.

I like the set up of the truck. I literally do not want to do anything more than change it to brushless.

carbon fiber looks bad in MY opinion.

I don't want to modify a million things until they break. my goal is to change my stock xl into brushless with no other mods until the mods become necessary in the future.

No input?

I know absolutly nothing about brushless setups.

like i said previously. I don't wanna go crazy... just yet.

so i need a flux motor + esc + mount + battery holders.

obviously batterys.

what about the tranny?

If you just want the stock TPV's take a look at this it will give you a idea for what you need for a conversion. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAEMR&P=7 You can find most of the things on ebay for cheaper than what the kit is.

what you mean "no input?" hit up that link that tim gave you and it has everything you need (less motor, esc and lipos) at a great price. i see it has the gear to convert your present tranny to b/l which will come with instructions and there is a video of how to do it stickied in the flux section.

motor - this motor is a direct fit to the mounts in the kit tim linked http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXWVC1&P=ML

ESC - this esc goes with the motor i linked and they are the standard equipment that comes in the flux http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXWVC0&P=ML

then get some lipos. check out www.maxamps.com

no probs. if you decide to go this route and have questions as you build, just hit this thread back up and we'll get you sorted :salute::rock1::FarleyParty:batman

I just ordered the conversion kit from ebay for a really nice price.

also got a few other odds and ends that were broken.

gonna wait till i receive these items and then order the rest of everything. thanks guys.

Also look into the hd 18/23 drive gear and a robinson racing pinion. Youll probably only get a few runs out of the stock before theyre junk and need these.

yep & you can price shop that Flux Blur/Tork Combo here it is for $264 http://www.activepowersports.com/products/HPI-%252d-FLUX-HP-2200KV-BRUSHLESS-SYSTEM-%252d-HPI100686.html

might even be able to do better on price caz tower is expensive. Google HPI 100686, it is the part number for both units.

What price you get for your conversion?

I got it for $120 free shipping.

What kind of packs am I looking to get? I don't mind spending the money on good ones as long as they are proven to be a good product.

Also whats the deal with the brakes now? how will they function?

sweet deal, you got a lot of parts for cheap money.

i have a set of hyperion 35c 6500 mah (5s) and Maxamps hard case 60c 5250 5s and love them. many guys run the cheaper lipos: sky, turnigy, blue, zippy, but i haven't run any of those so i don't know any about them.

Also whats the deal with the brakes now? how will they function?

The esc provides reverse and also braking. you will remove the one way bearing from your tranny (when you convert) to allow this. You want to choose decent packs with a nice, large discharge (c) rating caz when you use the esc for braking is sends current back through to the packs.

you will also want to purchase the castle link so that you can program the esc parameters using a windows based computer. we'll get into that once you get the motor, esc and castle link. there are thread on here to learn more about this.

will the hyperion batterys fit in the flux battery holders?

I only need 2 batteries correct?

also, what kind of run times would i be looking at with those?

Thanks for the info. your a huge help.

will definately fit. wish i went with 5000mah on these instead of 6500.

yes, you need 2 packs to run in series. id say about 30 minutes or longer per charge if your bashing because your not constantly hammering the throttle like you would be if you were racing.

frddy, the 3s 6500 wont fit will it?

I run the 2s+3s 35c 5500mah hyperions and the 3s is a perfect fit. It is kinda funny how much smaller the 2s is.

nope and i think 6500mah is discontinued altogether

how are the charge times with these batteries?

would it be a good idea to have an extra set of batteries when i decide to purchase?

how are the charge times with these batteries?

Depends on a few factors: My charger has high output and the hyperions are capable of being charged at hight current without damage so i charge them at the highest current and it takes about 20 minutes or so.

would it be a good idea to have an extra set of batteries when i decide to purchase?

not a bad idea; if you want to run your truck for a few hours straight you can run a set, charge a set.

Been doing a little search for batteries and I'm really liking these
http://www.maxamps.com/LiPo-9000XL-74-SAVAGE-Pair.htm

I'm not looking for speed but I'm looking for longer run times. obviously 54 mins is an average but if in reality they only last 40 mins thats fine by me.

what do you guys think? my budget for batteries (both together) is about $350. I don't wanna go over that. so if you know of some really good ones for that price let me know.
