Lets see so I go out dump a thousand dollars in to a xl. New wheels, tires, venom smart temp, battery meter, aftermarket shocks,, aftermarket adjustable a arms, heavey duty tie rods 23 mm hubs and beadlock rims Wheelie bar center skid plate, fuel filter, spent a day of lock tighing everything ...................... and so on then in i take it out to break it in and play with it and after 1 and 3/4 gallons of fuel. The front end explodeds one of the hub bearings went out and let the pinoin and ring gear destroy them selfs. I THOUGH BUYING A SAVAGE WAS SO YOU CAN HAVE THE BEST and not have somthing that falls apart

So the front end exploded eh?.. Any pictures so we can see what went wrong?

the bearing on the hub where the dog bone conects to went out which let the diff move around in the housing and stripped the gears off the pinon

About 2 gallons and is all you get out of that bearing. Just think it at it was a T. Max by now, it would be in four pieces.

so for a 1000 bucks you get 2 weekends of fun is there not a upgraded bearing set out there to fix the problem

It is the best, but even the best things require maintenance. A lot of us tear down to do general maintenance once a month or every gallon. if you got almost 2 gallons and never tore down to inspect i'd say thats pretty good. owning a savage is 50% maintenance

what were u running in? sand, water? the bearings go thru alot of stress and should be replaced every gallon to gallon and a half, they are not built to last forever.
i think your rather lucky that you ran that much fuel with such little problems with no maintence.
the savage is the best tho, any other rc would of lasted half that before it did something similar.

wait let me get this correct.... you bought a savage cuz its the best but yet you can make a thread and turn around and bash against a truck for a bearing failure? its called maitenance imho it doesnt matter what kind of rc that anyone has,all of us (even the electric guys and girls) know that when in this hobby that maintenance is vital to the life of any rc vehicle and to get the best peformance and fun out of the rc, and a little bit of love can make a vehicle last for as long as you want. Ok now do you change the oil in your real vehicle? if so that would be called maitenance as well so i imagine that you would expect the same performance out of your 1:1 car along with your rc so remember to just give it a good looking over and a cleaning to have the most fun and life out of the money and time put into this hobby.

eric...

busted

i don't know dude,i just call that bad luck,,i have a x and i beat the snot out of it,over heat the mill all the time, flip it slam it drag it on 3 wheels i treat it bad and she still gets up every time, but i do lose screws, bust rods, strip gears.those things do happen.even for 1000 bucks you are not going to get a bullet proof truck with no manataince.if you think that you in the wrong hobby.no offense even they best drivers or rc nuts break stuff
you will be ok

well said guys +rep. there is a maintenance schedule somewhere in the savage owner's manual.

diff maintenance is (i think) p.31

here is a great source for bearings, good idea to keep a stock on hand https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10575

here is a great thread on this topic from A.J. https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12111

I know it is a pain but half of this hobby is fixing the truck. little things like this happen. We are here to help with anyquestions you may have and will be happy to walk you through any repairs you have to do.

I agree with Ozzy-Time, usually you can beat the ---- out of a truck and not have things break but sometimes it's just bad luck and something damaged you may have missed before the last time you ran it. Just remember that there are cheap ways to get your truck going again no matter what you break. Getting into the hobby is the most expensive part, after that parts seem relatively cheap LOL! Don't get too discouraged, they call it bashing for a reason. My Super Nitro RS4 touring car has stock bearings in it after six years of hard running and a few crashes and even the engine and the "upgrades" that I put on it when it was new are that old and the thing still runs like a champ. I guess what I'm trying to say is that savages take way more of a beating than other types of RCs so these things will happen sometimes.

called hpi there warrenty rock news updated gear sets front and rear a whole bearing kit and the plastic diif housing cover there sending me. ya I'm new to the sport but ill figure it out. But i still was wondering if there was a upgraded bearing set you can get to prevent this issue or at least prolonge it occurence

glad you are getting it fixed maybe they will send you the new HD ring and pinion. No matter what you do you are going to have to keep checking and replacing those bearings along with everyother part on the truck. I check everything on mine once a week or so.
