I want to do a mid tank. I have been looking at the ofna 250cc conversion. My question is, will the tank fit with the stock shocks? All the pics I have seen in the forums have aftermarket shocks. Also, from the searches I have done, the TVPs used are from FLM or PRC. I like the PRC kit but will it fit savage xl TVPs? Or would life just be easier if I got FLM tvps? (I like them because they are way cheaper than PRC). Let me know. BTW, I'm new to the forums and I just want to say that this site and the people on here are super helpful.

Welcome! If you have an XL I want to say your TVPs are about the same length as the extended FLM and PRC TVPs. The only thing I'm not sure about is if the XL TVPs have an extended front end, which is what is needed to fit in the ofna 250cc tank. I would think you should be fine with stock shocks as the tank sits between the TVPs and shouldn't hit the shocks.

welcome lifter.

you can install the 250cc tank with the stocker shocks yes. however, you will need a longer servo plate because the 250cc tank is too long to mount to the stocker servo plate or flm servo plate.

you can buy a longer plate (in carbon fiber) from PRC products which is nice because it is designed specifically to accept the ofna tank (just bolts on) hit up larsonracing with a pm for details.

you will need to relocate your steering & throttle/brake servos, Rx & hump pack. the flm ext tvps make this real easy because they come pre-drilled so that you can relocate your servos with just bolting into a different location.

your xl tvps would probably work fine too, youd just have to drill some holes to mount your servos & etc.

if you have questions, hit the shoutbox & any one of us that have done the mod will help ya.

msulifter37 first welcome to the forum! It is possible to mod all your existing stuff to take the mid tank set up. Stock shocks and all. How much fabrication skills do you have and also do you have the tools to work aluminum. If your set to do it, I have done it to stock TVPs. It takes some drilling and a a few mods but is possible.

Well, I will admit I do not have much mod experience. But, I did buy the ss kit and built it completely by myself, painted the body, tuned the engine, etc with no prior knowledge of nitro rc at all. I just woke up one day and decided the hobby looked cool and I wanted a challenge. So, fabing some stuff won't be a problem. I learn quickly. I have the stock tvps right now but I want the xl tvps for the extra handling and added room inside the chassis. As far as tools to work with aluminum, I just have a drill and some drill bits. I live in an apartment so my space for tools is limited.

First off the XL is the same length in the front as the 25/X chassis. The XL is also longer in the rear than the FLM or PRC Extended Chassis's.

My prc125 is made to accept the OFNA 250cc tank. It is not a direct bolt up to the Xl chassis but would fit with no issues. The only thing you may have to do is either drill a hole in the chassis on either side toward the rear or what has to be done to the X/25 TVP's is use a flat washer and use it as a clamp, clamping the TVP's between the PRC125 plate and the washer. This has worked great for many who have done it. Your throttle servo will bolt directly to the bottom of the plate via FLM Servo Mounts Here is a shot of this.

Now to mount the throttle servo you will have to come up with some sort of mount for this as I am unsure of what will fit. There are many who have done this so I am sure you can find pictures somewhere to mount the servo to the TVP in the stock tank location. Otherwise you may be able to drill the TVP so the FLM Servo mount will work.

Also, the FLM TVP kits are great but do pack a little extra weight about twice that of the PRC TVP's. I wish I could get the prices down but with the difference in material from alum. to Quasi Weave Carbon Fiber is a lot. This is also the best strongest CF you will find for these applications. Good luck on your deciding.

Just my .02 the XL is quite long I believe you would be more happy with the PRC or FLM Extended LCG set's.

Gottcha. I suppose i will go with the flm tvps them just because of price but I like the PRC kit for the 250cc tank. Do you know if anybody is able to keep their reverse with the 250cc tank? I know the smaller tanks are able to keep reverse

Oh I had another question. Do the FLM tvps come with longer dogbones or can I just use the stock length ones?

The servo for the reverse will not work with the PRC125, I have not seen anyone that runs a MT be able to run Reverse but someone may.

They will come with the longer Dog bone if you but then as a kit unless you get them used with out one. You will use the stock front dog bone.

If you use the FLM TVPs with custom linkage you could use reverse. There is provisions for twin servos up front. Its just not in the center position.
