Hey guys. Finally got my FLM mid tank done. Its freaking awesome!!!!!! I am using a OFNA 250cc tank and the run times go on and on and on! Anyways, I got the truck last year and could never get the 4.6 under 290 but i was running it in 80+ degree weather. So, today was the first run of the season and I reset all needles back to the factory settings and decided to retune the thing to get better running temps. I have the engine running very smooth. Nice blue smoke thru the whole powerband. No shuttering or stalling. And the weather is about 50 degrees right now. But, the same thing happened. Engine temps at or slightly above 300! The engine still ran just fine but I am concerned. I don't want to cook the engine. Richening the high and low speed needle does nothing but slow the truck down. Could it be possible that my engine just likes 300? Let me know!

maybe your thermo is off? what fuel are you using?how hard are you riding it? is your body blocking all airflow..

Lets see. I'm using a duratrax temp gun. Trinity Monster 20% fuel. I guess I don't know how hard I'm running it because I have never bashed with anybody else so I have nothing to compare. I just hit small jumps and stuff. WOT every now and again but definitely not every run. As for the body, how can I give the engine more air flow with the body on? If I cut it all to hell, wont that just ruin the strength of the body? As well as open up all the internal stuff to dirt and debris?

I'd see about cutting a circle in the windsheild (circle cuttin bit, like for cutting holes for door locks) but if you want you can just run with the body off and see if you get different results. If you do get diff results your not cooling it enough.

first thing i always do is cut a hole in the windshield as already suggested, it makes a big difference.......

Yes some fuels will run hotter. Also like stated cutting a hole in your windshield helps but shouldn't be needed. I usually do this but more or less as a grab handle, LOL also helps with temps.

The F engines also tend to like it hotter. I had a F4.1 that ran awesome at 300*F. Colder was rich and hotter was lean. I was also running Trinity with that mill. Now have switched to Byron and now to there GEN II and everything runs in the 23-245*F range.

Like some have mentioned check for air leaks in your carb, engine and fuel line.

well, I didn't mention earlier but I cut a hole the size of a half dollar coin in the windshield before the run yesterday. But, I do think the temps stay down when the body is off. I will check this during my next run. Also, I have the K4.6. Do you guys think I should change fuels?
