I hit a curb at about 50 MPH, launching the truck into the air in a violet spin and into a steel light pole. The damage was not minor, and I need some advice.

Among other things, I need a new TVP. I'm pretty sure I'm not interested in staying stock, so I'm curious to know if there is a recommended TVP choice.

Thanks for your help.

Dave

flm. unless your in the uk, then you want IRC.

and for the record, it prolly wasnt 50mph. i know that it looks fast, but a member here built a street savvy that maxed at 45mph, and that was with a custom SG.

Thanks very much for the advice. I'll place an order for FLM TVPs.

You're right, I have no idea how fast it was going, but it was wide open throttle. The only mods I have are the 3-speed tranny with high speed third gear and 49T spur gear as well as a Buku pipe.

Either way, the damage is pretty bad. It tore two of the shock shafts out of their mounts, shattered the fuel tank, ripped my pipe off and dented a TVP. I won't know what else is wrong, but I'm sure I'll find out when I rip it apart.

Thanks again for the advice. Very kind of you.

Quick question: Do I need the FLM skid plate to go with the extended TVPs or would I be able to use my RPM plate?

Thanks again!

Yes the FLM's are very nice. I also sell Carbon Fiber ones but they come with a price. However they are very strong durable and light. They also look sick.

If going FLM you will have to get the FLM skid plate as the RPM one will not fit. The skid I sell will also fit the FLM TVP's.

Good luck on your adventured forward.

Haha, thanks very much. I thought my damage was pretty bad until I read about the guy in the suspension forum who "hit a school and cleaned off the left side of his truck".

This won't have been my first dance with a curb and, as a result, I'm pretty good at wrenching, so I'm looking forward to some upgrades.

@larsenracing: Thanks for the info. I'll have a look at your site.

Onehump, if I have not said it before, welcome to the forum! I agree with everyone here that the FLMs are the way to go. Doesn't matter if its standard length LCG's or the ext, thats a personal preference. Can you post up some pics of the carnage?

If your talking about me I didnt hurt the TVP's... Could be another guy and school though... Had the FLMS on already at that point

Welcome to the forum!

Yeah, I think it was you. I just thought the comment was funny. I can't imagining cleaning the entire side of a truck off. I'll post some pics in a bit. 🙂

Thanks for the kind welcome everyone. I've actually been lurking for quite some time, but have managed to find my way around without asking any questions. I've been focusing on my 5T lately, so I'm out of the loop and was hoping for the quick answer on TVPs that I got. Thanks again!

5T eh? lol you should post some pics.......

Yeah, well, here's the thing. It sort of exploded in my garage. I've got just about every screw out of it right now and am in the process of cleaning it before I upgrade just about everything. Here are some cell phone pics before and after my first run. I'll take some pics of the parts explosion later today when I get some pics of my busted up Savage.

Yea its even worse to watch when you thought you had enough room. I laughed in the end. My son laughed from the start... Well thanks for posting up! How you liking the 5T? I ran one for about 6-8 mins and broke it with a simple lil roll. I was shocked it took so little to hurt it. Again sucked to watch as it was Judicaters on this site and not my truck. I don't think 5th scale is for me. I like fast zippy cars. Please feel free to post any thing on the 5T here too vids pics etc.

I have to tell you, the 5T makes me giddy like a little girl. Every time I hit the gas, I get all silly inside. I always finish my runs with a huge smile.

The 5T is incredibly durable. As we all know, a simple random occurrence can break any truck. I actually stripped out my Savage steering servo on a low speed turn while breaking it in. Anything can happen, but the 5T is very, very durable.

I've been taking it out on a huge soccer field down the street. I've been jumping 10' berms and then turning around and coming off of them at full throttle. I've flipped it 100's of times like some of those nasty Nascar death rolls you see on TV.

The only issues I've had is a C-Clip pop lose during a poorly planned berm to berm jump, causing the wheel to pop off, and the piece of plastic the body mounts to snapped in half. The total bill for that fix was about $10.

There are some other benefits as well. The motor started right out of the box, and continues to start easily every time I run it. I have no tuning issues, motor drama or slime. I don't have to carry a roto-start or ignitor with me. I can get up to 45 min on a tank of fuel and about 5 tanks in a $2 gallon of gasoline. So that's nearly 4 hours of run time on $2.

As far as power goes, it feels more powerful than my Savage, and is at least as fast. There are also many upgrades available over at DDM, but they are painfully expensive. I expect to drop more than $2K in hop ups into it in the next month if I end up going with a motor upgrade.

I'll tell you guys a quick story. The first time I took it out after break-in was a pretty wet and sloppy day, as you can see from the pics. I had the 5T in front of me and I punched the throttle hard. Not ever having this problem with the Savvy, I was surprised to find myself covered in in mud and grass as the wheels tore away.

It's a great truck, but doesn't replace the Savvy. It is far more expensive, a bit louder and very expensive to upgrade. I think the consensus is that it's more durable, with a far more reliable plant, but the Savvy has a solid place in anyone's stable. I'm honestly not sure which one I'd keep if I had to get rid of one.

2 - Ripped out pipe (Thankful my Buku survived)
3 - Suspension damage
4 - Shock damage
5 - Busted fuel tank

I have no idea what I'll find when I open things up.

Here are some pics of my ongoing 5T tear down.

1. Clean enough to eat off of.
2. I still have some work to do on the rear end.

I've also got a decent size pile of dismantled parts that need washing. You may or may not see those behind some of the busted Savvy pics.

keep us posted on your mods. I live in the US and have the IRC inch and 6mm extended TVP'S and love them. The reason that they say to get them if you live in the UK is because of shipping. Just wanted to throw that in their in case you thought you could only get them in the UK.
