i have asked so many people the same question but still no1 was sure enough to tell me, they started telling me about specs n wutnot but i wanna know the bottom line.

Any1 got the bawls to speak their opinion or state some concrete facts.......

OK too answer your question you need to dig into the specs of each mill.

HPI claims the K4.6 makes 2.9HP @ 35,000 RPM. It has an 8 port sleave and an 8.5mm carburator .

HPI claims the F4.6 makes 2.9HP @ 32,000. The F4.6 also has a 8 port sleave but only a 7.5mm carburator.

So to answer the question which is more powerfull you need to ask your self what are you looking for. The F4.6 makes it's peak power sooner than the K4.6. The fact that the F4.6 has a smaller carb would lead one to think that it makes it's peak torque faster too. So if you are looking for a mill that hits peak power faster the F4.6 is you choice. Hitting it's peaks sooner will allow the F4,6 to shift faster, BUT that doesn't mean the F4.6 will be faster than the K4.6.

The K4.6 had been built with a higher RPM band in mind. Once out of the hole the F4.6 will lose it's advantage and the higher revs will allow the K4.6 to pull longer in each gear and will give it longer legs than a F4.6 with the same gearing.

Power is a hard word to describe, is the ability to push silly high speeds your idea of power or is it ripping wheelies at will? Both require a differnt type of mill with different port timing and RPM ranges and both represent the two ends of the power spectrum, horsepower and torque.

I will say that the F4.6 is the more powerfull mill because it produces it's power sooner than the K4.6, BUT the K4.6 is the faster mill.

I believe what Defiantspaz said, It has good grounds. It would make for an interesting Drag race. The higher reving K4.6 is a beast Ive seen one in action.

I would though, Like to see an 8.5mm carb on the F4.6 just to see if the bigger air flow would deliever a much more powerfull injection of nitro?

I say this cuz my Platinum .28 has three carb inserts 7.5 8.5 and 9mm I could not use the 9mm at this time..way too much torque. INSANE THROTTLE

Good point, Chunky.
And I agree with Defiant Spaz, also.
Thanks DS

Question is fiasalbasha,... do you have the nads to say "thank you very much" for the
that GREAT concrete information that was just provided to you?

i was always thinking about this point, if the k4.6 is very strong and strong enough to make the savage go like mad then why did they make a new engine f4.6. why did they make a new engine for the savage X rtr 4.6.... they I'm curious why they didnt put the K in it as well. why did they make the strongest engine in HPI history if they wanted to make the newest savage the fastest. why did they make it the same as the K engine. they sould have made an engine that made a different between it and the K making the K a weaker link. i was thinkin more of the lines of PICCO .28 HP area. i was hoping the F was going to be a 3+hp engine.

all I'm saying is why bother make a brand new engine if it was going to be the same power as one that already exists.....????? THIS IS THE REAL MYSTERY..

I found that site, some time back.
Nitro Review.com
Its a really cool comparision tool, for sure. I don't know who manages the
site but the info has gotten abit outdated since I last checked.

They need to add the newer mills to the listings.
There was also a complaint that the site didn't log the members submitions.
I don't know if thats true or not.

still no thanks, do your own research.

Unless you own stock in HPI's company, Your guess is as good as
anybody else's, why they do what they do..

You will find that many things DON'T MAKE SENSE in the hobby industry.
In other words, It makes perfect sense to the manufactures.

Its my opinion that it would not serve a manufacture any level of logic, to
install and ship a powerful enough motor that will break the drivetrain.
Plain and simple.

Otherwise, they would have to spend the money on re-developing the trucks
drivetrain to withstand the additional power they've included with the truck.

This, or be bombarded with warranty claims that would put them out of business.

It looks as though you have your answer, but I want to complicate things by telling you to buy the Axial .28 instead. They are both made by the same manufacturer and the Axial is about $70 cheaper. I just purchased and broke in the 1 spec engine and I absolutely love it. Good top end and you can not imagine the torque this engine throws at the wheels. If you take a look at my avitar I am running 40 series rims and some of the heaviesat tires around and this thing will rip a wheelie whenever you want it to. Break in was rediculously easy and after about 10 tanks this thing is really starting to open up.

You will have to flip the carb to the other side upon purchase. The roto start plate for the HPI 4.6 will bolt on perfectly !

Absolutely love it and sorry for the long post. Here is the link to this wonderfull engine. P.S. - Don't touch the mid-range needle !

First, you are pointing out the new F4.6 that is in the Savage X RTR. RTR's are supposed to be easy to get going and they usually don't have all the extra goodies that the kit versions do.

Again look at the needs of the new nitro RC owner, the new engine needed to be easy to tune and have a predictable power band.. The older F4.1 was a good mill, BUT it did lack the low end that most Savage owners like to see. Enter the new F4.6. The F4.1 made 2.75 hp at an undisclosed RPM and had a 7mm carburator. The new F4.6 makes 2.9HP @ 32,000 RPM and has a slightly bigger 7.5mm carburator. Considering the nature of RTR's the F4.6 seems like a very good choice. The added power and torque just make the RTR that much better. The F series mills have always been about durability over huge power. Less RPM means less wear but the 2,9HP rating means the mill has enough juice to keep it interesting to the owner longer than the F4.1 would.

On to the Savage Xss and the K4.6. The K series mill is a twin in most respects to the Axial .28 Spec 1. This close relation means the K4.6 is designed for max speed at the expense of some durability. I would bet that the new F4.6 weighs more than the K4.6 too. Weight savings, increased RPM and a bigger carb mean that the K4.6 will most likely have more midrange and topend power than the F4.6. Just because they both say 2.9HP doesn't mean they make the same power. Remember that torque is what gets you off the line and horsepower is what keeps you moving. Power has two measurements, you need to consider both during this comparison.

RC companied do things in stages. They want to gauge market responce to any changes they make before they commit the new ideas to their entire product line. I have heard rumors of an updated K4.6 that include the crank form the Axial .28 Spec 1 RR and a K4.6HO that is supposed to have most of the upgrades done to the Axail Spec 1 RR.

I beleive that HPI has a bigger K series mill in store for the next generation Savage Xss, maybe a K5.0, who knows? The fact is that the Savage X RTR is a better Savage with the new F4.6 and by setting a new standard for the entry level Savage it will make the entire Savage line better in the end.

Look, Cheverolet makes the Corvette. For years it was their top dog, no questions asked. That was until Chevy make the 1993 Camaro Z28 sporting a slightly detuned Corvette 5.7L. In 1994 Chevy made the Camaro Z28 SS which was so close in performance to the Corvette that Chevy needed to make the Vette better or the sales would have declined to just the Corvette enthusiats only. In the end Chevy made a better Vette and has continued to do so from that point on. I expect HPI to do the same with the Savage Xss.
