Hey guys....I have a stock savage 25...here's my problem...

I can run my savy out in front of the house and I don't have a problem what so ever. When I take it out to an open field, it fouls a plug. When I run it on the street around the house its mostly short bursts of speed, just basically running the truck back and forth. when I take it to an open field, I get to really open the truck up and run it. and it never fails...about 1/2 a tank through and it fouls a plug every time. it seems to be really hot (I can hear the fuel bubbling in the lines) I have it properly tuned...I wasn't running it too lean. I cant seem to figure out what the probem is (VERY FRUSTRATING!!!)

Any thoughts?

To my knowledge I haven't removed any head shims. (don't know exactly what they are.) 30% nitro and a med/cool plug.

I'm 99.9% sure the fuel is the problem, A lot of people stay away from it and Blue Thunder has a reputation for running hot...

Try switching your fuel...

I had a quart of it and my Axial.32 was running up to 320!! changed to Byrons and it wont go over 280, I gave the rest of the Blue thunder away and the guy had the same problem. :resp:

my savage ran super hot on blue thunder & not much better on the hpi fuel.

however, you say that this is happening at 1/2 tank which makes it sound more like a 1/2 tank lean issue than a fuel issue to me (only cuz i had that problem too)

try tuning your savage with the tank 1/2 full & then fill the tank the rest of the way. it will cause you to run a bit rich through the first half, but wont lean out as bad for the 2nd 1/2.

btw- this gets old too so i did a mid tank to solve the problem all together

Thanks for the input guys!! definatley changing fuels! any recomendation on % of nitro?

I agree with Frddy, This is very possibly HTL. but could be the fuel as well. I would start with changing fuel as you will gain from the change anyway.

I tend to run 30% as a favorite.

I like 30% in the big block engines the best. I ran Blue Thunder fuel when I first got into nitro RC and I was always going through plugs. I had convinced myself that a plug a tank was normal. But since changing fuel I haven't had that problem any longer.
Right now I run Byrons but would also run Odonnel if Byrons wasn't available to me.

Thanks for the input Oregon! I feel the same way...a plug a tank is normal. I'm tired of that! Plugs get expensive when your going through 3 or 4 a week. At my LHS's they're not carrying odonel or byrons..:/ they all carry nitro fuel though...anyone use that?

Well what brands can you get? List them off and of the available ones someone should be able to tell you what the best of them is.
If your referring to "nitro fuel" as a brand name I haven't heard of it so I couldn't say.

I have been using 20% Sidewinder. I seams to be pretty decent, my tune is almost exactly the same from day to day. One nice thing is it doesn't require you to use after run oil.

So I called the 4 hobby shops in town and here is what they carry...LOL traxxas fuel(not that one), nitro juice 20% & 30%. and blue thunder. Not alot to choose from!!:/
