I bought this off the big auction site. As a roller chassis. I’m sure this has been asked a million times but here goes a million one. What have I got?

It was listed as an x and it clearly looks like one. The seller said this was the stock body as well. The purple plates gave me confused. That’s crazy to do as I know zilch about hpi nitro savages.

Anyways, I just took a head long plunge into the Hpi savage x world. I own 6 nitros from Traxxas but, have always wanted an Hpi. Excited about getting this built.

I’d love advice on engine choices. The 4.6 seems to blast his thing. But, I’m open to other advice and welcome it. Thanks ahead of time for the help of the model and any and all advice.

You definitely got a Savage X there and if the body came with the chassis, it was a 4.6 kit.
You can usually download manuals from HPI, but that function appears broken on their website at the moment.

The one thing that I noticed in your pics is that you are missing the motor mount.
They are easy to find.
For example:

As to engine choices - I recently installed an LRP .32 in one and am giddy happy with the engine and its performance.
I've got relatively tall gearing in that Savage (17T clutchbell / 47T spur gear) and it regularly pulls the front wheels off the ground in 2nd gear.

LRP also makes pull-start versions of a .28 (4.6) and .21 (3.5) sized engines.
They market roto-start backplates for these. too
I would look at their .28 or .32 sized offerings myself and skip over the .21.
I'm not saying anything negative about their .21, but Savages are just more fun with a larger engine.

Thanks, I never knew that about the X TVP's and had no clue regarding when those alloy diff cases came into existence. I just know that they showed up during the period when I was away from the hobby for a while.

It’s got alloy diff cups. Could have been an owner upgrade but, They are alloy.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
