Whats the best way to get to the brake so they will come off on a savage x? How long does a transmission usually last before having to redo?

My opinion is to remove the rear end (bulkhead and Skid plate screws) from the tvps. I think it is like 4-6 screws. Then you can get to the brake assembly. Transmission: Depends how you drive it, engine force and how good your bearings are.

If you have more things to do to the transmission if take the whole trans out and while its all out. Clean everything check bearings. Re locktite screws ect. Anytime you tear into your truck is a good time to check everything and clean it. As for how long a transmission last before a rebuild. It varies on so many things. Type of driving you do. Type of engine. On road. Off road. How smooth you have your shift points ect. I have never messed up any of mine. I've ran a few do over a year straight. Ran them hard no problems yet. But some people had problems with theirs messing up right away. The owb going out ect. So hard to put a timeline on a transmission.

take out the 6 screws that hold the tvps to the bulk & skid braces & pull the tvp's apart, to drop out the rear end & dog bone.

ive got 4 or 5 gallons on mine since i put in the hi-speed third or did anything else to it. trannys don't need much if anything. unless you blow a gear, bearing or brake cam.

not really likely with stock mill.

the trans in my cf truck lasted a little over 2 yrs before it exploded but imho i take the rear bulkhead off then the brakes if they need replaced, but when i need to take the tranny apart i pull the top off of it then pull the guts out.
