Do I really have to drill holes in my new Maximizers? Because I really don't see the need for it. I have already mounted zombies w/tape on the inside and firm molded foams and they are working great so far. They do not seem too "bouncy" to me. And I have been jumping with them too. Besides, why doesn't Maximizer make them with vent holes if it is so important?

I know most you guys do drill holes, but you are going to have to convince me with some examples of personal experiences or something to get me to do it. I just do not see it giving my truck better performance. What am I not seeing that would convince me otherwise?

I could compare to the stock tires/wheels but they balloon like crazy so I don't think it would be a good comparison.

Here is a link to Maximizers website:
http://www.maximizerproducts.com/faq/index.cfm

They is a part down the page where they say the venting is up to the customer. And that they believe that venting the tires and not the tubes is the best option.

So basically, you DON'T have to vent them, but you can if you feel the need for it.

I vent my tires with a leather punch. I run badlands and my truck is no slouch and I see barely any ballooning with them and they aren't taped. My premount crime fighters balloon more.

Mine are punched on the inside (side of the wheel closest to the car) in the middle of the section that is closest to the wheel. I haven't ripped one yet. I wouldn't punch them on the outside of the wheel as I would think that could cause them to rip.

I also edited my last post. My badlands AREN'T taped and they don't seem to balloon.

Shanty, thanks for pointing that info out to me.

I won't drill the rims, but I can't afford to risk destroying one of my zombies by botching a punch job.

Instead, I will test out the hole punched tire trick with the left over stock setup. The warlocks already have holes in them so it does make sense to puch holes in the gt2 tires and let all the debris that collects inside out of the tire.

So do I have to unmount them first? Or use a drill bit or something? I do not have a leather punch on hand. How many holes? Tim, the inside of the tire sounds like it would be a good spot, I think I will try that.

Anyone else have any input on this?

Umm.. I will be honest, I don't have a clue on what I am doing to vent holes in the tires. All I know how to do it is in a Wheel. But I haven't done it to my Maximizers yet.

So your turn Tim.

I tried venting the actual maximizers but it didn't work (still air tight). I did what you said savage chicken and tested punching holes on my dirtbones tires first before doing my badlands. Funny thing was first run with the tires punched I ripped one wide open. When I inspected the tire though it turned out it had nothing to do with my punching, rip no where near my holes.

I punched 2 holes not sure what size though. I started with the smallest hole my punch would do and kept increasing the size until the air would go in and out of the tire freely. I think I ended up with 2mm holes. I vented them with the tire off, I don't know how you would do it with the tire on. I tried a drill and it didn't work. You also need to make sure the holes are round. If they have any cuts coming from the hole you will be far more likely to rip your tire.

I would definitely recommend testing venting old tires first, you may drive in different conditions to me and it may mean you will rip a tire easier.

I actually got a new set of maximizers today. I was quite impressed. I had a few issues with the old maximizers and it was nice to see that all the things I had issues with have been fixed. Rounded edges on the rings so they don't shred the foams, bracing on the rings so they don't flex and ring shims so you don't have to buy rage rings any more.

This is great information guys.

When I installed my maximizers I had no idea you could vent the tire I guess this is new news to me. When installing mine I actually compleated the assembly and drilled like a 1/8" hole tord the middle of the wheel and on oposite sides for a total of 2 holes in each wheel. Seems to work great but these holes would need to be redrilled to act as vents when new tires are placed on the truck. I will/may have to vent the tires from now on.

You deffanetly need to vent the tires or you will get a vary bouncy ride and will get much better traction on uneven surfaces if the tires are vented.
