up in smoke

yeah after less than 10 min running my brand new Christmas present from my wife vgjr edition indoors on a carpet in a long hotel corridor on Christmas day a puff of smoke puffed out from the esc .
i was running it on a 2s 40c 5000mah turnigy LiPo .
gotta say I'm so gutted .
it was the ems 3s esc
any input would be appreciated .
i contacted hpi support on the 28th dec only to get an automated reply saying they were on holiday and would be back on the27th of dec
what would you do ?

I would do just what you did and call support when they are back in the offices....

All sorted.they asked for a photo of the receits and my address.
Shortly after i received an email saying a new esc is on its way .
Thats the kind of customer service that makes me want to keep using them
