Hey all, this is just one of my toys this was the original savage 21 when they had first started coming out, needless to say I have had this one for some years just couldent bring myself to sell this one. I know it dosent look like much now but I am slowly getting it together, haveing to replace Everything from being wore out its taking a little longer then I would like.
As I put it together I have been trying beef this thing up.

Lets see,,

aluminum diffs front & rear ( Nova )
4 spider gear upgrade front & rear ( HPI )
HD drive cups All ( HPI )
aluminum lower control arms front & rear ( Integy )
aluminum tierods "rear so far" ( Integy )
clear electronics cover ( HPI )
rear wheel stearing "made by me" now that I got the bugs out of that I will get the aluminum to build it better
extended frame rails
frame rail braces ( Integy )

I think that is about it for now, eventually everything will be aluminum on it I think thats the only way I will keep it together running two engines, I have always run the Hyper 8 port as a single, now I am thinking of running the Orion Wasp 28's as twins.

just hope I can find a good body to fit it right that looks good and not to short for it.

wow awsome truck bud!! how did u go about building the rear steer yourself as I'm sure alot of people here would be very interested to know

Thanks.. here is a couple more, everything that I am gonna put into this I'm not looking to have this done much before next summer..

seen a pic. somewhere of the rear steering and it was hit and miss till I got it right, as you can see in the pic it is of sheet medal and now I want to redoo it in aluminum

Its great to have a new member and a new project too look at .. How do you like thoes cooling fans on the heat sink .. do they help ?

Are you worried about a rear end crash w/ the srevo and all being exposed like that ... Looks like a cool set up man keep us posted. allways wanted to try rear wheel steering

I haven't used the fans yet, thought that since I will be usuing two engines it will be getting hot under the body and the fans can only help well thats my thought and they will be on there own rechargably bat. and for the rear steering and servo I am not quite done it will have an aluminum bumper and better brackets.. Thanks

not sure the name if it even has one it came with the extended frame rails, the neck is behind the engins and it dropes down and goes under the engines, the talk is devided down the center to make two seperate tanks

the rear steering wasent that hard to do, when I build the final one of aluminum I could post pics of it off the truck with measurments as best I can if anyone is realy interested in adding one to there own truck, as I like to exparament with new and or odd things for my rc's and also like to share my findings with others and help in any way I can..

Hi,

welcome to HPISF.

How does it handle with the rear wheel steering? It is the first one I have seen, your mod looks good but I was thinking it might not last to long being open like that.

great looking project, I would love to see a video when you finish it.

John

Hi John, before I started all the mods on this I tryed a diferent version of a rear wheel steer on it about two years ago it was a little stoppy and nothing like this final version I have now but it worked pretty good that thing would turn on a dime, I was also worried about it being open as it is, but wonce I get the the aluminum bumpers I will stiffen it up alot better in the rear and maybe even make cool cage of some kind around it..

Thanks.. Jay...

sounds good Jay, I am curious about the twin engines too. Really cool truck you have going there.

I was looking for a way to put another bell crank, one cut to fit under the motor and using a single servo (one of those 333 oz ones) for the both front and rear steering. It dosen't look like there is any easy way to do it though.

bordum

Just have a lot of time on my hands, so untill I find the aluminum I need to make a better bracket for the rear wheel steer I painted it white, I also put a on off switch for the fans I will be installing, even more bordum I cut up my old licence for a licence plate as a cover for the switch,,.
I just cant seem to find the aluminum pieces I need to finish this prodject right, maybe some one on here could point me in the right direction to find this, I need 3" aluminum C chanel for what I am doing for this, and also if anyone is interested in a RWS for there savage prodject I am gonna make more and I thought it would be good idea to donate some of these to this group for prizes or what ever you would like to do with, that is if I can get the C chanel I need.
I seen the kit on Tower Hobbies and there you only get 2 brackets and a splitter for a great deal on money well to me anyways, I had notesed that they don't suply a of bracket to retain the lower hinge pins I have that in mine,.
so wonce mine is compleatly finished with aluminum and if someone thinks it would be a good idea to donate to the group for a prize or what ever let me know,,
Thanks,,
Jay..

almost forgot I will be looking for something that can be used as a small rollcage I know I will have to invent this, I will be useing this to protect the components in the rear and also to hold the hingpins in

Nice work I like your heli too. Donating the brackets for prizes sounds like an awesome idea. I still want to see a custom chassis that can support having basically a stock front end on the rear. It would make the rear steer a very simple mod and tough too.

Your still useing the stock rear so however you have it built to sute your own driveing will be the same, all your doing is using your rear tierods for steering,
only thing is with rear wheel steering is and a lot of people have menchened this is yes it would have an attendency to roll over easier, as I have learned you have to readjust your driving less steer into the corners, but I will say this, it will turn on a dime,, I haven't used this with the extended chassie yet so this should help out alot,..

hey twin do u have trailer supplys stores by u i was just in one and they have a hole bunch of metal there steel and aulm if not tell me what u need and i can look

Only place here I know of is surplus city, I am trying to remember if they had aluminum,, I think they do but not the size I need, I need 3" wide C channel by what ever lengh, the longer it is the more I can make, but as for 1 I would say I need a piece about 6",, I also need to fabracate a cage for around the componets and to keep the upper hingpind inplace cuz you cant use the factory bumper bracing....

Thanks again,,
Jay...

i am going to see if a can make a set of bumpers so i will go to see what trailer supply has sometime this week and i will get back to u,the c channel u neeh is three inchs wide

what did u need for the rear steering set up,do u splice the servo wire or something like that

yes, everything is stock so if somone wanted to put it back to the way it was there would be no problem..
