Ok try not to laugh too hard. This is what I'm starting with. I know I'm gonna spend more money fixing it up then just buying a new one but i think building is a little more satisfying then just popping it out the box adding fuel and going. I know its ugly right now but soon it will be a bad truck, After i make some changes and improvements. Any suggestions on a motor thats easy to work with would be appriciate.

DUDE....LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING!! building it from scratch is like NO OTHER....your own touches....your own tricks......that's what makes your SAVAGE YOU...so have fun and spend all you want!!! lol
 
Is that a razor hanging above your savage, did you just get done shaving it? lol
Seriously though, If i were you I would probably go with an lrp z.28r. I hear they are user friendly and more than enough power for an unmodified engine. For around $160
Or you could always go with the infamous picco .28 for around $200
I have heard that some people prefer the lrp over the picco in stock form. If you are lookin to spend less than 150 let us know and i'm sure you will get some good recommendations. And mad props for actually building your truck the way you want it, its better to do it that way than to just buy rtr. You will have a sense of self satisfaction knowing you put it together yourself, with the things you want. I have no doubts she will be a beast when you are done.
 
Yeah, i would say spend the extra 10-20 bucks and go for the lrp. You won't regret it, and if that truck has the old 2 gear diffs, you might look at upgrading them to handle the power the newer engines provide.
 
I started with a simullar set up and now my truck has a RB 728 Fastlane TVP's JP-2 pipe ofna 220cc tank and I am still under 300. With only diffs and radio to go!

You will love the ground up project!
 
as a relatively newb i say i like the f4.6 that comes stock with the savage x. 2 needle and fairly consistent on tune. i have an axial 28 on its way so i will learn about that one soon.
 
Ok, i agree that building your own Savage rocks hard, but you just gotta know that your gonna spend a lot more cash than if you bought a rtr, & fuel & ran it.

keep in mind that when you buy a mill (motor) your also gonna have to buy a flywheel, clutch shoes, clutch springs, bearings, collet nut & clutchbell so it adds up quickly.
