THE INTEGY MSR-8 SHOCK from the ground up

With all the posts we've read on the Integy MSR-8 shocks lately, I thought it might be of interrest to do a re-build on the set I've been thrashing with reckless abandon.

After completing the first two shock bodies, I had to admit these puppies are no joke. As for the beef they sport in thier design specs, it seems that every where you look, You
get the impression that these shocks were built for serious bashage. And thats saying alot for the company that has been under fire, for less than reliable products.

I'm quite impressed with these shocks. Impressed enough, to reccommend them to anyone that is willing to work around some fitting issues that can be resolved with additional
hardware.

With that being said, I thought that maybe others here wouldn't mind getting a peek at what I'm looking at.

hey man, they do look nice and beefy. thanks for taking the time to post up, should let people get an idea of how heavy duty they are...i'll stick with my irc kit tho!!
looks better than the earlier shocks that bend really easy.

Presenting this post the way it appears now, was the best way to get it out out to you.

Seeing that I'm very slow with the posting tools, I'm amazed that the pics are in a progressive sequence... As you can see, this thread is a point to point assembly of the MSR-8 shock by Integy.
The only thing I've done to alter the factory assembly is to add a tiny washer between the nylon piston and the locking nut that secures it.

Not having an inside look at this pre-assembled shock set when it was new, tells me that it may have become loose due to prior use. Without the washer installed, it will remain in a loose condition.
The nuts doesn't reach the piston otherwise. I also included a piece of fuel tubing on the shaft for some bottom-out cushionning for the shock body.

There's also a nylon sleeve insert installed at the shock cap to protect the mounting hole,
I managed to find these parts at a computer surplus store.

It all got hosed up by my own inexperience with the posting tools....lol. I have to say, I have learned abit more about how my pics can be handled...lol.

hey dube, nice thread bro. your right, integy has is not in the hpisf top 10, but those shocks seem pretty meaty.

Most of the bad rap for Integy shocks are from their lesser MSR5's and such. I have been using the MSR8's for about a year now and just had (yesterday) to rebuild my first one. (I had to replace a shaft.)

I am very hard on mine (some here know first hand) I beat my truck until it breaks and I don't have parts. I have had slight bends in the shaft, but until last bash I have always been able to simply bend them right back. No problem.

When I ordered my mine, I ordered 9 of them and a rebuild kit. I still have the extra shock in its bag, and I just used one of the shafts from the rebuild kit.

You can run these with 4 or 8. These were big bores before there were big bores.

Overall I have been very happy with these... but I just ordered some Baja 5B shocks to replace them... hee-hee-hee.
