I don't know why but I keep breaking the stock shock shafts. They keep breaking right where they screw into the plastic end! Does anyone have a recommendation for a more hefty shaft that wont break as easily? Could it be my oil wt? I'm using 30wt.

don't know of any upgrades for stock shock shafts, but if you don't mind splashing a bit of cash go big bore, the shafts are beefier, Flux big bores can be bought fairly inexpensively on eBay, even the alum big bores are fairly cheap, and you get the nice blingy go faster TiNi coated shafts with the alum BB's

Then you can also use Hellfire shafts which are a bit shorter, so drop your truck a bit lower.

What kind of conditions are you running in. Lots of jumps and big air, or are they just breaking running around the yard? I have broken a few shafts in that same spot, the first thread seems to be their weakpoint. Mine broke under pretty hard running and doing jumps. If yours are breaking when your just running the truck gently I would say that you have another problem. Make sure your shocks aren't overfilled, that will put more stress on the shafts when they are compressed all the way. I have been running my truck harder than ever lately and I haven't bent or broken one shaft in quite a while (I run the threaded aluminum shocks, they use the same shafts as the stock plastic shocks). I think the main thing that gets them is awkward landings, once you get better at reading the truck in the air, adjusting with the throttle/brake, and landing on all fours it will help your shafts last longer.

These seem to be breaking when I take hard turns in the yard. No jumping or anything special, just running and taking sharp turns. I notice also that it is always the back shafts that break. 3 broken so far with no hardcore abuse!

Wow I don't know man. Maybe somebody here will chime in with more advice. Did you check your suspension arms out really well? Maybe there is some flexing going on there somewhere which is twisting on your shafts and causing them to bind. Then when they try to compress, the threads can't take the stress and it snaps. It definitely isn't right but I have not experienced this before. My guess would be either overfilled shocks, or something else in your suspension not functioning properly causing the shafts to bind. Check your a-arms and everything really well for cracks.

Just an update, I put 40wt oil in the shocks and moved the top mounting position to the middle hole and have ran hard for 4 tanks now without any shafts breaking. So everything seems to be ok now!

I'm wonderin if you got a bad batch here. doesnt make sense to me that a steel shaft is breaking before the plastic eye or shaft :dunno:

Well maybe. I've replaced 4 of the 8 shafts now and none of the new shafts have broken so we will know when and if one of the old ones break again.

Now I'm thinkin it is because the last kit shaft just broke and all the others that have replaced have not broken yet.
