I'm just wondering what are some of the temps people are getting on there stock k 4.6. Mine is high according to the manual (sometimes reaching 290. typically 240)

well 240 is just about perfect.. but i have heard of others finding there engines "sweet spot" at alot higher temp, hopefully others here can shed more light on it for u!!!

I've found each engine to have different ideal temp. I had a Thunder Tiger .28 that ran best when it was up around 290. My LRP on the other hand will scream and still be around 230-240. The weather, fuel, pipe, and plug will all contribute to the engine temp though. Its best to tune the engine for performance making sure you still have a good smoke trail when on the throttle. When you have the engine tuned the way you like it, then take a baseline temp reading. Then you can use that for comparison when you have to retune.

temps temps temps ok heres the deal...each mill will run at different temps .. but a rule of thumb to go with is good smoke as long as you have good smoke ..i only check temps when I'm doing break ins and just out of curiousity when i change fuels but never really take temps just watch for smoke and listen to the mill it tells you alot..hopefully this eases your mind with the temp questions... good luck and don't over worry yourself.... ohhh and welcome to the forum.. happy bashn

just like max said.

thx eric lol... so many temp questions come our way .. i know most of us thats been in the game awhile ignore temps so figured ide try to shed a lil light on some the new ppl to the nitro scene. i know my very first rc i was constantly adjusting the mill to keep the temps steady ... didnt even really get to enjoy driveing it cause i was constantly checking the temps and adjusting it to get them either cooler or hotter ... uhhggggg lol wasted so much time ...lol

Thank you guys. I was doing what max did on his first rc. it is boring. but ive moved on to building some jumps in the backyard and I'm not too worried about the temp now

+ 2 i don't even own a temp gun and the only engine failure i have had is a snapped crank while the poor old s25 was wore out and cold

My k4.6 runs best in the 270-290 range, so I stopped worrying about temperatures. If it runs and sounds good, it is good.

My K 4.6 would run at the 240 range. As most people have said Temps are only a reference to your tuning skills.

Here a fun test. tune you mill to the best of your ability and take a temp reading. Now put on a GPS unit and see its top speed. over 275F I will almost guarantee the truck is slower then 280-290. If you see 300 you are lean or the mill has a issue. Top speed and smoke is the only way to tune. but A temp gun is good for saying noob you are hurting me...

I used to do exactly that at first, and boy was it a nightmare. Now I just tune to smoke & sound and have fun, I figure I'll just purchase a new mill when it'll break.

My k4.6 too, around 270-290 is best.
