I'm gonna be re-gearing to 47/17 . I've read this is what most people are running . I'm wondering if it's better to use a plastic or steel gear . I've read plastic will save the transmission .

some like the steel ones and swear by them, but i would rather have to replace a 5 dollar plastic spur then a more expensive steel one so I'm still using the plastic one and i have had the same one for almost 2 years now,so it goes to show if your spur and clutch bell are meshed properly the plastic ones hold up just fine...

2 years is great ! That's what i was thinking too about the replacement cost . Thanks

Like Fred said above only thing that saves the tranny is the slipper. Got a weak motor and want more zip?? go plastic.... (rotational mass) Got a power house? go steel... I still have the original 47 steel gear I got in use from my first ever savage years ago (Xss) ...
