It's me again. My roto starter is slipping inside engine. I have cleaned the OWB with carb cleaner. I want to make sure I don't waste $ on the wrong part. Is there any chance that the starting shaft is worn or the pin on the crank is the offending party? Also, I have been looking at a product on ebay that replaces the OWB and the starting shaft with a solid nut (since the starting shaft does not turn after start anyway. Any feedback on these?

Thanks again,

ck

There is a thread on the one way bearing replacement somewhere. The last I read is it was working. If you put the one way on the shaft can you turn the engine over with it by hand. I was told to grease my one way bearing so I have been cleaning it and greasing it with tamiya grease. I don't know if this is a good thing but I have never had any issues with it slipping.

I'll try greasing. It could make the clearance difference huh? I found the link on the replacement part. I've never had the back plate off. Is that scary?

for the one way bearing you don't need to take the engine back plate off. Just the cover for the roto start assembly. I'm sure some one is going to tell you to seal your engine though with does mean taking the back plate off.

Take a close look at the owb. Mine had a fine crack that was very hard to see. I went through all the cleaning and stuff trying to figure it out to. Then I looked at it with a mag glass and there was a crack all the way across. The metal was strong enough that I could put it on and turn it by hand, but the roto would turn fast enough to make it slip instead of grab.
