Well guys.....i had seen them and didn't know how to do it......everyone would like to know anyway.....how to put Baja 5B tires and wheels on your Savage. I first saw this on a truck at the world finals last year that RC Driver did for a givaway.
Well after seeing and watching... i said what the heck and did it! first.. i scored a cool pair of Dynamite 23mm adapters off ebay for only $9shipped ......and a killer deal i might add for brand new stuff!! then i bought some aluminum tape from "you friendly neighborhood NAPA STORE, GE TTHE GOOD STUFF". (I'M A MANAGER!)
since the Baja wheels are 24mm there will need to be 1mm of slack that will need to disappear... so start AT THE CORNER OF ONE HEX! mark it in case us need to remember where you started and END AND THE TIP OF THE SAME SPOT. you don't want to have one more thread of tape OVER where you started...as this will throw the hex off balance and make it lop sided in the rim. after about 2 to 5 turns (depending on your grade of tape) trim and try on your wheel. to should be tight with a few turns of the tape. screw hex on truck...and VIOLA!!!!!!
*MAKE SURE YOU GEAR FOR THE EXTRA WEIGHT AND SIZE OF THE WHEEL/TIRE COMBO. MAKE SURE YOUR STEERING SERVO IS UP TO THE TASK. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, MAKE SURE YOUR FRONT AND REAR TIRES ARE THE SAME HEIGHT OR YOU WILL BE REPLACING A DIFF!! THE STOCK BAJA TIRES AND WHEEL WERE THE SAME HEIGHT FRONT AND REAR.*
i took pics of the truck with this combo on...and when i was taking the wheels off....the camera died (because i left it on the whole time!). i as soon as i find some money for batteries i will post pics of what the hexes look like with the tape on them!
let me know what you think!!
