Hey,

I was wondering if it is normal for there to be a little slop in the transmission where the spur gear is connected. I can move it back and forth about 3/4 of a mm each way.

Don't know. All I know is that I can move the shaft connected to the spur gear in and out about 3/4 of a mm each way. Not much, but there is some play there. Oh and I am NOT talking about the mesh between the clutch bell and the spur.

I noticed that also when i was putting my 3 speed kit in. I just assumed it was normal.

mine had about 1/4inch, happened to have an extra spacer and I used a dremel to shave it down to the correct size and got all the slop out.....

Wow, I love this forum. You guys respond fast with multiple answers.

K well I am happy it sounds like I don't have a problem.

Thanks
Shawn Stevenson

I put a 0.2mm shim behind each bearing on either end of the input shaft where they sit in the case, brought the play down to a much more satisfactory level.

I also put smaller shims either side of the gearing on the output shaft at the bottom of the case to address the same thing there.

great idea alex

That works also Alex. I happened to be at the track and noticed it, stripped a spur gear so I went ahead and got all the slop out as much as possible, has almost none now. This was on my other truck that I don't own anymore but when it left it had VERY little slop
