I'm sure this has been answered a hundred times but, I have two savages they both have the same problem, eather slipper clutch is too loose (no wheelies) or its too tight and melts or strips in ten minutes of bashing in grass. Is there a better way. :duh: FUBAR

It shouldn't strip like that. Mine is tightened pretty close to all the way. The key is the mesh. I have found that it has to be set kind of tight with new gears. Then they kind of break in. It took some time to figure out. I striped 3 spurs in 2 tanks before i got it. Now I have 1.5 gals on one spur.

Check your clutch shoes sounds like your springs are weak, and the shoes are dragging. causing allot of excess heat.. my advise change your shoes and springs

sorry to cut in hear but, how long should the clutch shoes last. Ive got quite a few gallons on mine. Two motors worth mabey 3 gallons on the stock clutch shoes.

I like to change shoes and springs every galllon and a half. There cheep.

after every run I take the engine out and check them, I take some sandpaper and scuff them up

Every run meaning 5 to 10 tanks

Wow I am terrible then. I have the stock ones with 1.5 gals on them, and all i have done is clean them once when I took out the motor to do my p&p. Oh well I just ordered nova clutches anyway.

hey I wonder if at higher rpms they probably slipping quite abit. wouldnt you say. So if I haven't changed them In a long long while My top end might improve abit. ( hoping to spank my bud's 4.6 with my .26 ) were really close now ..but I still pop wheelies so they must still be grabbin..right?

That is deff possible. Either try changing them or like he say scuff them up a bit. See if it helps. It can't hurt anyway.

I believe there is a better way, Crash. Check out a couple of posts I wrote about how to make your own direct drive on this forum. I wish I knew how to post a quick link for you but you'll find it under the:Gears/Clutches/Brakes forum, titled, "how do you change a spur gear?" thread, page 2. Read comments directed at "Cobra".

the mfg. says to put a piece of paper between the two gears than tighten the motor in place, is this tight enough?

how cute(sorry jester for useing that word again) this is my first post here on the site.
