Hey guys, I'm looking for some feedback on whether or not I should dump the roto-start and convert my Savage X 4.6 to a pull start. Any positives/negatives, etc. Give me som pros and cons. Thanks in advance for the help.

I love my pull starts as its easier on OWB's and you don't have to carry that huge honking rolo around with you when bashing. The Rolo is nice for starting that cold engine though but it is sure hard on OWB's. In my mind everyone needs to come up with a deal like the traxxas starter but it does add weight.

I guess I try to stay with pull starts but do have a Truggy that used the Rolo and a buggy that uses Torque start.

Yes if you prime the engine before trying to pull it will start easily with in 3 pulls.

To prime I usually pull the line off the exhaust pipe and blow threw it to get fuel to the carb. Works great for me. I stop as soon as the fuel is to the carb as well.

Thanks Larsen, I'll keep that in mind. Should I get the HPI pull start?

I have to say that the Savage is an awesome truck. I have not had to touch any settings other than making the trans shift a bit earlier since break-in. This thing runs like a raped ape.

Yes they are a great truck. You can get the HPI pull starter as it's a good one otherwise I think the Axial AX012 will fit it as well but cant remember correctly. Look weather the OWB is internal or external. If it's internal the Axial one will fit. I just can't remember which they fit. The Axial one is cheaper and the same thing.

ey Mike, i just started a similar thread bcuz my roto batt does not hold a charge long so when i can squeeze in a few minutes to bash batt is usually dead & needs a charge. i used my corded drill to start it the other day & there was prob too much fuel in there which caused it to bind & blew out the pressure spring that keeps tension on the starting pin. due to that, i am going to the lhs today & get a pull start & new spring. Also, the roto is not small enough to fit in my pocket & if my sav should stall during a bash session, it never fails that the roto is about 1/2 mile away from where i am.

I have used a roto up till recently.

my axial 32 has so much compression( 2 gallons burned through it) it tore up two starter shafts before I put the pull start on.

now I loosen the glo slightly and two tugs its going.
