Ok so I finally took out my Savage XL out for the first time since buying it. I had set it up just like the instructions manual stated and when I tried to start it with the roto start it sounded like it wanted to start and turn over but never did. I changed the glow plug and added a new one. I primed the engine even though I had to suck the gas through the tube to get it flowing couldn't do it with covering the exhaust pipe tip and using the roto start. I tried for a half an hour with no luck. I was playing with the high speed needle and riching the engine and still no luck. I had fully charged the glow plug ignitor 2 days ago so it should have been good. The engine sounded like it was about to start but just never turned over. Can someone please help! It was 37 degrees Farenheit outside with a few snow flurries, so it was pretty cold. Thanks!

for priming, its easier to take the pressure line off the exhaust and blow into it.

as far as the temp, you need to get the engine warmed up before you take it outside. take a hair drier and get it up to at least 100* and it should fire much easier.

yes i would definately use a hair dryer to heat the block up a bit and it should help ya!!

i had trouble with my XL in the cold. it seemed like i was yanking on that thing for ever then all of a sudden it came to life. even with a warm-ish head

when i broke in my engine the idle was set way low check that too.

Put the needles back to factory. If this was the first time you started it up since you got it, the needles are set rich at the factory

Definitely heat it up for a while. If this was the first time using it it will take a while to get it going. It may be several tank fulls until it starts quickly for you. Take the glow plug out and stick it in your igniter, it should light up and then you will know its working. Also after attempting to start it for a while you might have sucked to much fuel into the engine. Drain it out and start over.
