They both use 17mm, or should. HPI included 14mm and 17mm hexes with their trucks for a while.
The XL tires are big and floaty though. You will likely have to go down on the CB.

CB= Clutch Bell, you may need to drop a tooth or 2 smaller to keep the same acceleration curve as with the smaller tire set.....

Yeah, I did the same. Tried out 3.8" trenchers. They were just too big and floaty on a nitro for me. I like the throttle/truck response on nitro to be quick and snappy. You can overcome that extra rotational mass somewhat with gearing, but it still didn't feel great to me. Just running a set of 3.8" traxxas talons now. Save the trenchers for my brushless trucks as they seem to deal with the mass better.
