This my 4th tranny replaced just this year and its getting old. I don't buy the whole kit, i just buy whatever gear is broken. But it always seem to be the idler gear that always break. I shimmed it with a glow plug washer so it lines up better. Should i just buy a whole new set of gears, get a two speed, or dump the whole nitro thing and convert it to brushless?

change to a 2 speed they can take the power better then the 3 speeds

I had a 3 Speed in my savage racer while i was learning to drive/race and abused that thing like crazy mine didnt budge at all had no damage. I have not seen that much damage done to 3 speeds unless its with a high end motor or moded motor. I'm not saying it wont happen but 4 times seems a bit high.

Postal what motor are you running ?

+1 sudi. My 3-speed stood behind a modded picco & only blew up once (which basically because i wanted to "see what wouid happen.") after that, a little throttle control and she was fine.

Well ever since i had the lrp 30 with a jp3 exhaust ive been breaking stuff left and right. I changed out to a plastic 47 spur and 18 race clutch, but i do have the slipper cranked down all the way. Should i just drop a two speed in, ive heard they are a little more beefier.

If my memory serves me right 3 speed is a 2 speed with a 2rd gear.

You may want to loosen the slipper a tad that will save you some cash. I never had a problem with my 3 speed with the LRP .28 on it with the ERCM Pipe. Can you post a pic of your tranny there may be some other problem we are over looking.

Ill post a pic later, but its usally the idler gear, plastic gear, 3rd gear adj, and the gear that mesh with the idler.

gonpostal i have been having the same problem. same set up as you with the lrp .30, gone through 5 trannys now!!! i completely stripped the whole thing and cleaned the inside of the tranny case and i found loads of shrapnel.

i was just doing what you said before about replacing the broken parts but after cleaning the whole thing its been alot better.

Also where are you shift points?? mine where shifting in mid RPM when the engine has most torque. i have changed mine so they are right at the very top of each gear, right at the end of the powerband like, at the point where it shifts the engine is more or less maxed out RPM wise and has very little power left.

so far so good, hope this helps i know how frustrating and expensive it is!

i will let you know if and when i brake mine again lol.

Brad.

I gave up and just bought a 2 speed from eBay. So far so good, the gears are really beef, plus I don't really do any high speed runs, I just bash.
