I had ordered a bunch parts from JRC a few years back. And after watching a few videos on you tube I decide to go hunt it in our storage. Some bad news parts got rested and to find them is hard ans sometimes way over price. Gurr and all my local hobby shops are gone. 1000034280.webp1000034279.webp1000034281.webp1000034282.webp

I am getting very close to having all the parts I need to get this savage x back on the road. The motor might just need a good cleaning I can spin it and there seems to be a lot of compression but the carb is stuck. I had forgotten I had bought a new tx/rx right before it was stored. I can't remember why it was stored in the first place.1000034609.webp

I know. Let's just say I'm getting my neighbors ready for what is to come. 🙂

I've found that denatured alcohol baths to be most effective in clearing out old engines.
I've had a couple (not originally owned by me) that were so gummed up you could not turn the crank. I stripped them down and gave them a series of baths until flakes and other junk were no longer washing out.
So much junk came out that I had to run the alcohol through a coffee filter just so I wasn't recontaminating the parts on follow-up dunkings.

If you need or want to remove the piston and it won't budge, look up:

Your carb should be an easy clean. After it dries off, give the slide a drop of oil and work it a time or two.
Make sure fuel can flow through the HSN. I had one so badly gummed up that it was 100% clogged.

In looking over your backplate arrangement, I noticed that you have an engine where the end of the crankshaft will have a little pocket that fits a small spring and pin to engage with the OWB shaft.
Look out for them and don't lose those parts (HPI 1433).
I've removed the backplate to have the pin pop out.
NP
Then absentmindedly tipped the engine only to have the spring do its thing, and had to crawl on the floor with a flashlight to find it...

Get it running and then start dreaming of hop-ups...
