hey guys i have bought a savage 4.1 and i not sure if you run it 4 about 10minz when u stop it the engine is boiling hot so hot u cnt touch it i didnt run it fast just slow running also when i stop it you can hear like a boubling as if the fuel is boiling but it isnt lol sorry if this is a bitr confusing but i wanted bit of advice so i dnt get robbed blind in the model shop allways better if u get expert advice lol thanks again dan

sounds like its really lean.

do you have a temperature gun?

the boiling sound is fuel hitting the really hot carb.

i personally would set all of the carb setting's back to factory, and re-tune it.

what fuel?
what plug?

hey guys thnks 4 hte help and i am using mtronicks 20% fuel and standard hpi plug it just and i might set it back to factory and see what happans also it is not changing gear i was wondering is there any way that thye need setting up or do you reckon it may be just a broken gear box

Dan tune it to the vids below and see if she shifts. A poorly tuned mill will not shift. If it still does not shift at that point the tranny is adjustable. Post back your findings and I will either walk you thru adjusting the tranny or link you too it.

i haven't tryed much as i say i am a novice and dnt no how to do much or where much is but all i no my 25 changes and the 4.1 dosent lol

i will follow the vids tmz and see what happans i'll drop a post and let u's no how it went

sorry me again what will be the bets thing to do twist all the needles right in then if i do that how far do i twist them out so it is on thr run in settings so that i can start to set it up like on the vids thanks dan

set your HSN, and LSN to flush, then you only need to adjust the large gold needle to get started tuning...you may need to lean out the LSN slightly.

turning it right will lean it out (less fuel, run hotter)
turning it left will richen it up (more fuel, run cooler)

i would suggest leaving the truck alone for a while before you cause possible damage with blind tuning.

do some quick research and get a better understanding of how tuning work's, there is alot of good info, and alot of picture's to help you understand.

you can also download the factory HPI manual for your savage from hpiracing.com, in that manual it will show you how to setup your savage, to factory setting's, and tune from there.

i recommend the following tool's, part's for tuning:
fresh fuel that you plan to use all of the time
extra glow plug's (O.S. #8 is a good medium/hot plug)
small flathead screwdriver
8mm glow plug wrench/socket
temp gun

do your research, and try your best to get all of the above in order to tune, and keep a tune on your 4.1 savage.

tune's change day by day for the most part, as weather changes or parts get add'd you will need to re-tune..its an important part of nitro engine's.

no problem, feel free to ask if you don't understand anything, or need help understanding.

it can be a pain to understand at first, and seem like alot of work, but it will eventually click in your head, and youll be able to tune it by ear and feel shortly.

Those two part HPI vids are most likely better than any other material on the web for teaching to tune. They even say and let you see what not to do.. Beter than any text out! lol thats if they are the HPI vids on the tube I didnt look at them. Set the needles flush and watch the vids a few times and both parts too. After you 3rd time thru them you should be ready to tune it. Also not in the vid only tune at half a tank or less. don't tune a savage with more fuel in it than that due to inherent flaws in the tank position and design.

the video's were ok, but they arent very detailed for someone who is new to tuning, for every needle they speak about, they show the same picture of the carb, from the fuel tank side.

the HPI manual pdf that you can download from hpiracing.com shows the actual picture of the needle, and where it is located on the carb, plus they tell you which way to turn the needle's, and by how much at a time.

thwe above video's do help, but it seems that make more sense to those of us who allready have an idea of how to tune.

i don't think the OP has any idea of how to tune based on his question's, and replie's.

no offense to the OP at all, we are all learning all of the time, and the best way to learn is ask question's.

ye i get what you mean but i learn better bye watchin vids and been shown rather thtn trying to read the books so you no the vids can help a bit more
